GWENT: The Witcher Card Game just got another major update that's all about positioning: Positioning the cards inside the battlefield and positioning GWENT in the place it needs to be for its journey forward. Here's what CD PROJEKT RED have to say about both the recently implemented and upcoming changes:

Hey there!

It’s been a busy time for GWENT, with our visit to PAX East and the announcement of GWENT Challenger — an official The Witcher Card Game tournament. And it actually gets busier from here on out. We’ve just released a new update for the game and we’re here to tell you more about the features it introduces, how they lay the foundations for what we have in store for you in the future, and what that’s going to be.

WHAT’S NEW IN GWENT

One of the major features of the latest update is Unit Positioning. You can now choose where you want to place cards on the row — this change factors heavily into how abilities interact with units on the board.

Take a look.

Up to this point, there haven’t been many ways to let your opponent know what you’re thinking. This changes with Taunts, short phrases that allow players to communicate by clicking on their avatar.

Take a look.

The board now features a Move History. It lets you review which cards have been played over the course of the match, which can come in handy when you’re looking to outplay your opponent. Like they say, knowledge is power.

Take a look.

Speaking of the board, we’ve given it a general facelift to make it more legible and accessible, letting you see more even when you’re in the heat of battle.

Take a look.

The latest update also introduces changes to cards and tweaks improving the balance and overall experience. There’s actually a lot of those. You can check them all out in the full changelog.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR GWENT

The updated board and visual tweaks introduced in the Positioning Update are the first step of a visual overhaul coming to GWENT. This isn’t going to happen overnight, but rather over the course of the next several major updates. To give you a sense of what to expect, we’re talking new targeting indicators and card highlights, card movement animations and shadows, and unique effects for abilities.

We’ve got more premium animated versions of cards in the works, with the plan being for every card in the game to have its own animated variant. We’ll definitely be hiding some easter eggs in there, so make sure to be on the lookout for these once they’re in the game.

We are also committed to adding more cards to GWENT in general in the not-too-distant future. And with all these new cards set to arrive, as well as other upcoming changes, starter decks will be getting a refresh, too.

Card abilities and descriptions will be getting a revamp as well, so that they’re more intuitive. A big part of this will be standardizing how certain cards work and behave after being played, resulting in simpler and more reliable ability priorities.

Using this chance, we’d like to thank you for the amazing support you’re giving GWENT. You comments and suggestions are a tremendous help in shaping the game and making it a better experience.

I never new Gwent exested untill I started playing The Witcher 3. I think its awesome game now, but when I started playing your stand alone Gwent beta, I realy got lost in trying to find the similarities of the play from witcher 3.
It was confusing with all the effects that one had to learn and do all over again. So my point is now, that with all these new changes, would be really nice to see it happen in the accual Witcher 3 game...:)
Cheers

Awesome? Just wait until you get fully in. Welcome to the club (y)

I doubt they will change something on the gwent inside The Witcher 3 anyway...

GottagetDatchees: To everyone bitching and complaining. The game is in closed beta, not full release. You should expect several changest to artwork and gameplay. Thats the whole point of closed beta is to test and figure out what works best and how to implement said changes. Chill folks.
Disagree strongly.

"Closed beta" is but a usual convenient excuse for spoiling anything. If someone wants to develop software - any software - he first has to have a clear conception of what exactly is he going to develop. Clearly, here is no such conception.

The purpose or point of beta is to find and correct any possible bugs and test the functionality. Not making significant changes to the project. With the quality of changes that are being made to this form of gwent, we all may live up to the day, when we will realize the card game vanished somewhere and we have a data processing software in front of us.

IMHO, of course...

Finaly, one point for all. How do you want to beta test something that is not even able to run normaly? Regarding all the complaints of players who have problems to start the game at least? That OK too, because "this is a beta"? You can't be serious...

I need the ability to look/ examine the board after the game is done. The game pushes you to the win/loss screen sometimes not knowing exaclty whats going on. Especially when the final card is an attack card. What happened? What did it do. I don't know. I lost :(

Just a follow up from my last post. I think first of all that the game Gwent is absolutely awesome game and great for development memory skills and cognitive abilities.

Ok this is just my point of view at the moment:
Thing is, Playing The Witcher 3-Gwent game is one thing then playing the new beta, its all over the top for me, got totally lost in the swoosh, zip, bang!, shootem down, thankyou mam, flippen to fast and crazy stuff for just a card game that I simply and totaly enjoyed and loved in Witcher 3.

So whats my point in all this, well I'll tell ya my point of view, is this.....
Why not put all that amazing 3D effects into a 3D Gwent full score tactical third person game format. Have it all played out in a world of all the card charactors that already exist in Witcher 3 and put it all in a world game, where your the General working your army's into position and watching the battle unfold...thats where one needs to put all the special evects into....
Well just incase the Witcher team already thought of it, I second the motion...:)

Keep up the outstanding performance in The Witcher Games and I'm looking out for the next Witcher-4 content...
I'm in with a grin...:)
Cheers
The update is awesome with all the changes and stuff but after a game ends it crashes like 1/5 games.I dont know if its just me but please fix it , its extremely annoying

Oh yes!

Nerfe everything, because I don't like this, he doesn't like that and his siter in law doesn't like us cause we do not like her! This way we wilĺ be nerfing all the time everything until an absolute nonsense comes out of the game and it becomes unplayable. Excellent idea! :-/
This update rocks!!!!! Thanks a lot devs...
You are the best. Wish a lot of energy and power for you.
Best regards.

The Witcher was a trilogy. There wont be Witcher 4
This positioning aspect seems to make things confusing, especially with these new description words that are really vaque. Like " adjacent " and " among ". You honestly can't kniw what that means until you see the card played like Radovids new ability. Choose 3 adjacent cards and lock non golds among them and remove 2 strength or something along those lines. There are a few card abilties like that now and they really dont explain anything. Also the nerf to Roche, Iorveth, and Triss makes no sense. It literally makes the useless. I mean Triss is now exactly the same as Sile de Tanserville and she is silver. I think there are even a few bronze cards that can remove the same amount of strength. I mean the only reason I put them in my deck was because they could target gold cards now they might as well be silver dogshit.

How the hell are "Adjacent" and "Among" vague words? lol

Scratch that. I just went back and read it again. It definitely makes sense. I must have just skimmed over it he first time.
I stand by the rest of my post though about roche iorveth and triss.
always get kicked,,,,,,
How does the Nilfgaard spying work. Are the cards they choose to look at a one for one representation as when looking across the board or is it randomized . i asked this because I see no way to sort your cards yourself. Once you learn how your hand is sorted you can cherry pick cards.
thanks
