Eww yeah I hope this isn't the new normal for giveaways and freebies here on GoG.

I thought it was just a one off with the Diluvion giveaway (and obviously didn't enter) because of the nature of the prize and the involvement of a few other parties.

But if this is the way giveaways / claim your game codes are going to work from now on I'd be seriously bummed. Hopefully it goes away quickly.

I'm disappointed.
No, I will not pay for your beta with my private data and let you post stuff on my social media.
Well, I feel this might be relevant... https://playgwent.com/en/news#4560

Among other things, it is stated there that
"By end of next week [posted around Feb. 3], everyone who signed up in 2016 will receive GWENT beta access. We’ll be sending more invitations as we go."

Not sure how exactly this contradicts (or doesn't) this announcement here, but apparently there's no need to sign up anywhere or make a dozen Facebook accounts, waiting just a bit longer should do the job just fine...

A GOG account should be all that is necessary for any GOG promotion.

Excuse me my shouting, but:

WHY DO I NEED TO HAVE SOME CRAPPY MEDIA SOCIAL ACCOUNTS TO FULLY PARTICIPATE IN GOG COMMUNITY CONTESTS? WASN"T THE GOG PRIMARY RULE "GOG IS THE BEST BECAUSE THEY DO NOT REQUIRE FROM YOU TO USE SOME SHADY THINGS TO GO ON"? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?

GOG, PLEASE STOP TREATING US AS THIRD CLASS CATEGORY MEMBERS OF GAMING COMMUNITY WHO CAN BE MILKED OF OUR PERSONAL PRIVACY, PLEASE STOP TO USE YOUR STUPID MARKETING METHODS, PLEASE BE LIKE GOOD OLD GOG FROM THE PAST WE USED TO KNOW WHEN WE LOGGED HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Sorry again, but this all is going out of control and that is sad. :(

Nothing to add.

Dear GOG, please read the posts above and consider giving your fellows at CD PROJEKT a hint what might have been a stupid idea.

So let me get this straight... we get to beta test a game for you, but only if we use another, unrelated account (so that you can be sure you will only give the keys to people likely to also provide you with free marketing via those other services) and give a third party access to that account of ours.

Fuck's sake.

Yeah... I'll be over here, playing Morrowind. Good luck with your "giveaway".

The comments here gave me back my faith in humanity a bit :-)

ll chime in.
Im not a fan of having to use socialmedia in addition.
Faceboock track too many things already and you can actually get fired from your job in some cases if you play certian games.
In addition to that, once facebook knows what you like and have tracked you enough they will bombard you with spam and offers and all kinds of annoying stuff.
So, no thank you.

Nooo... No another account needed. I signep up right as Gwent started and do not need neither another account nor a beta key...

Quite disappointed to see this kind of proposal on GoG.

Beta giveaway against full control of a social media account? No thanks and you should be ashamed!

Heh, and when I complained about GOG's previous ventures into the delicious data-mining of sucker- erm, I mean paying customers, I got called out on my apparent tinfoil hattery...

Guess that wasn't something accidental, either. Bloody hell, there goes the last potential source of games.

Desura's dead (also, new owners data-mine). Humble Bundle loves its data-mining. Steam and other publishers' storefronts are... yeah, heh. Now GOG clearly needs moar profitz.

God-damn.

Not all datamining is bad.
Theres also usefull datamining wich can be good for users, but facebook is overdoing it, and its not something i woud call great use of datamining.
I cant speak about twitter since i havent read about the issues regarding that.
I also took the time reading your post and it just screams trolling and agenda all the way here.
Nice try, better luck next time.

ikrananka: ~snip

This kind of attempt to intrude on players privacy is frankly disgusting and I will not entertain it. Count me out, and I suspect many others too. I hope that those that do participate fully understand what they are agreeing to.
well said, its scary the level of snooping, tracking and outright spying done under the guise of entertainment. screw that they have so much data aggregation now that they have moved on from simply targeting ads to now making personality profiles right down to even your sexual preference. want a loan? too bad cuz youve been labled as a possible adulterer prone to depression. all this data is being sold off to employers, insurers, lending institutions etc. and people still act like its harmless and that they dont care if companies know their facebook etc but they are just not aware how deep and disturbing the profiling has become.

Of course I have an agenda. Silly me, I expect a financial transaction to come with no further strings attached, such as using either mine or my computer's information to be gathered beyond the absolutely necessary to perform the transaction.

You know why? Because it's not the "data-mining" that you apparently think is good that is the problem. Crash logs have always carried a wealth of information. Beta-testing data has been used for a long while. But both elements were 1. optional, 2. until recently without additional value of the data.

That subset of "data-mining" is in negligible use compared to the increasing demand for customers to also consent (knowingly or not) to the ongoing gathering of every single possible piece of information that can be sold to a third party. Google made its fortune that way. So did Facebook. Amazon management is apparently kicking their own butts and becrying being Johnnies-come-laties to the game, but doing their best to get them data warehouses growing.

There's a crapton of smaller companies that feed the giants with additional data streams, and it's all headed toward "pick-a-sci-fi-dystopia-of-your-choice" totalitarianism, because as soon as people become complacent about such data gathering AND accept that "database knows best," we're in population control territory that the old Soviets could have only dreamed of.

I'm old enough (and born in the right place) to remember the "good old times," so excuse me if I bloody well do get agitated when I see younger generations gleefully headed toward such social clusterfuck.
