They are sleeping, we are clear!

The decision making of GOG is just brain dead.

Primo_Victoria: I really wish GOG would go Microsoft already and force Galaxy, updates and whatever else so I don't have to keep up with all the bullshit and know not to buy here again.

Nightblair: I am on the verge too, after I've seen the KasperHviid's illustration image. It's bad practice to installing client like this. Like in some shady page with bootleg. This really put GOG down. I don't know if rest of the people is numbed enough to not care and we (who are complaining) are just strange or what.
What I don't understand is that those who come from Steam or elsewhere are happy to have a client, so why bother those who don't want to hear about it? They could make everyone happy by having the files on the website and allowing users to install from Galaxy. There, easy and done.

Take Sundered for example, I think it's only DRM-free on GOG, so what choice do I have? The only place that gives you an installer is GOG, and they want to move away from that. I don't hate any of the clients, but it's because I know what I'm getting if I choose to use them. GOG is being shifty, just like Uplay used to be, and maybe still is.
Thank you so much for the info! ^_^
As Kayx291 already said, the installers do remember the choice you made. If you don't wish to download a galaxy installer to set that change, the registry key said choice is saved at is the string installGogGalaxy found at HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GOG.com (for 64-bits Windows) or HKLM\SOFTWARE\GOG.com (for 32-bits Windows), with a value of false or true, depending on whether you don't wish to install Galaxy or you do wish to install it. The other installer options (Desktop Icons and installation directory) are also found there, so you can verify whether you've found the correct place or not.

Dear GOG,

You're honest policy was what brought me to be a paying customer. And I brought at least 6 people as paying customers.

Force GOG Galaxy on me, and I promise I will make all those people drop you as well. And I'll shout out with all my voice to everyone who'll listen to avoid GOG.

If I wanted a client, I'd get Steam.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: Great OP. I use Galaxy but I don't like the way how by default GOG presents Galaxy in ways that attempt to push it on old customers who don't want it and also trick new customers into using it by not making clear to them that they don't need to do so.

The descriptor "Classic Game installer" is vague and ambiguous; therefore, customers can reasonably misinterpret/misunderstand what that is supposed to mean.

"Classic Game Installer" should be renamed to something that makes what it is 100% crystal clear to all customers (including customers who will never read this thread), such as "Installer that does not include the Galaxy client."
I agree here. Classic makes it sound old and outdated. You can have the game, or you can have its "Classic" version.

Is that really a bad thing? We have regular complaints gog doesn't release enough "classic old games" anymore.

While I agree to an extent that it's not immediately obvious what Classic would mean, I'm not sure what else you could call it... Galaxy free is a bit cumbersome and standalone installers is only a little clearer.

not on my computer

I need to change it to 'without galaxy' EVERY time.

At this point I don't care because they're are far greater hardships in life, but I'm just pointing that out.

You mean you are downloading only Galaxy installers and have to choose not to install Galaxy each and every time? Because that's what the choice is, not the choice about which installers to download.

When I go to the game page there is the game to download and it is set to "with Galaxy". I go into settings change to Classic and it says "Without Galaxy". However, as soon as I leave the page and come back it's back to "With Galaxy".

Stardew Valley recently had several updates and I ended up accidentally downloading Galaxy twice because it kept reverting to the new installer.

Again, it's not a big deal, but on my system at least the default it the new installer and it goes back to default every time you come back to the page.

Yes. The setting I'm talking about has nothing to do with that option.
When you run an installer and click on options, there are a few things you can change there, like whether or not to get desktop icon(s) or where to install the game to. Those options are the ones that get remembered when running subsequent installers, and the option to install Galaxy or not is one of those options.

I dont mind GOG trying to push their new Galaxy Client to people who are into this kind of thing. However I do get bothered by the fact that they are discretely making their client the standard and hiding away the Classic Installer without it, instead of giving the same attention to both those that want the client and those that prefer to stay without it.
