Hey David, you should put the wishlist entry in the OP. It's easier to track that way

Good idea! I've updated the OP with some version 4 links and info, including the community voting link

A quick update today about bringing Grid Cartographer 4 to GOG.com. I've received an official reply now but unfortunately they've declined it (on the basis of it being outside of the scope of the site). While I'm of course disappointed, I respect their decision to focus on games and movies.

Thanks again to everyone who has voted for Grid Cartographer on the community site, it means a great deal to me. Moving forward, I'm still developing version 4 and I look forward to sharing updates as further progress is made.

Predictable, but still disappointing nonetheless. Let us know when it's past Steam Greenlight.

Like lowyhong, not surprised, yet disappointed.

Thanks! Despite the low chance of success going in - it feels good to have tried :)

Not sure when or whether I'll look at other platforms but I'll make some noise about it if I do.
Ah well, not surprising, coming from GOG. I have an earlier version but I'll buy the latest version once it gets on Steam. If there's still some voting that has to be done I'll head over and do it now.
????

Just went to buy this, and when I got to the PayPal checkout, the total was $23.99 instead of $19.99.
Also, is there a reason why so much personal information is needed to buy?

I really want to support the development of this, but is Grid Cartographer regionally priced? O_o
UK resident, if it helps anybody explain the price hike.

Don't know about the price. might be VAT.

But concerning the personal information, I too wondered about it when I bought it and was told by David Walters that I didn't need to fill any of it, which indeed I didn't.

Hmm, it didn't seem to let me proceed until I had filled it all out now.
Just tried again, and the page just keeps reloading, telling me information isn't valid, i.e. Not entered.

Yes. I checked just now and the service he uses does require one to fill up everything now. I'm pretty sure it didn't before, but my memory isn't what it used to be.

Well there certainly is some regional stuff going on. I just checked because I was curious and for me it shows 19.83 CHF. Which would be less than the normal price.
Hi, yes in Europe the software costs $19.99 plus your local VAT, converted into your local currency. So for me here in the UK that's just under £15.

FastSpring are required by European law to add VAT to your bill (based on your location, not mine) and give it directly to your government. This isn't extra money I see or control the rate of.

As for the extra address details they do make verifying your purchase a lot easier if you have a problem or decide to upgrade to a new major version. Also for FastSpring purposes it may cause problems with credit card processing and so you may have trouble proceeding there. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Actually, by my calculations, the actual price of Grid Cartographer with VAT added is a little over £17. The £14.65 mentioned at the beginning when the site detects your location seems to be based only on the $19.99 price only.

Unfortunately, while I could argue myself around paying $20 to support an ongoing development, $24 is a bit too dear.
I'm going to try the free version, and see whether it becomes an essential piece of software, at which I may just have to arm wrestle myself into submission. :P

You're quite right, sorry for my part in causing confusion - I wish FastSpring was clearer.

Well thanks for trying it out either way, but I hope you like it :)
