Bouchart: Alpha Centauri was one of my favorites back in the day, but I don't know how well it has aged.
You see the low resolution of the old graphics and the user interface is not as polished as it was in the old days but the feeling is still there if you play it for a while longer. If I remember correctly also the animations run now too fast.

It's a game that would greatly benefit from a remastering including:
- polished graphics and user interface
- support for large monitors
- slight changes in the game mechanics
- multiplayer support (GOG Galaxy, ...)
I'm gonna say Alpha Centauri as well. It still captures my imagination.

Tauto: Should I ask? What does a fart look like?

GR00T: I honestly think it's better not to know...
And this is what a fart strategist looks like.

VanCrusty: Do you have any Paradox favorites?
avatar
JMich: Not really, due to lack of time. Paradox titles do require for one to dedicate themselves to just that game, for quite a bit of time.
Incidentally, for anyone needing a brief overview of the PDS grand strategy games, there's this handy guide.

That was a classic episode, right up there with MST3K's finest IMHO.

The sick and twisted thing was, I actually watched that movie when it was originally broacast on PBS when I was in middle school. I had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on, but I actually kind of liked it, if only because it was just so fucking weird.
Many games have been mentioned already so I will go with Warhammer Shadow of the Horned Rat. Not only every battle requires strategic command but you have to manage your gold very carefully between missions. You'll not have enough to bring all of your units into battle and you have to spend a lot to recruit replacements so even though you may win every single mission through the first half of the game you won't be able to finish it because of lack of gold. Beating the game is a hard task but very rewarding so I can really recommend it.

VanCrusty: Let's hear it. Which single game, not a series, takes the cake for GOG strategy titles?
I don't remember any strategy titles ever having a "take the cake" mission?

HereForTheBeer: I have a soft spot for Total Annihilation, so I'll give that one my vote.
But does it fart?

In the words of Peter Griffin, "be that as it may or not be that". What's your game?

There is a cake mission at the very beginning of I think "7th Guest".

You have to cut it into equal pieces without having anything left over.

Greatest fartin' strategy? Silent but deadly.

I like it. Although, the crop-dust is also quite fun. Got a favorite strategy title? (found on GOG)
A game about the strategy of farting... now THAT I'd buy.

Hey, I don't think your religion should have anything to do with this!

But seriously, yeah Total Annihilation was built for machines with 800x600, 1024x768 displays etc. It does scale to much much higher resolutions but if you run it on your 4k monitor you might have some trouble differentiating your units. I don't find it a problem on my displays... as long as the blue blobs win I'm happy.

There's probably something like that on Steam right now.

Of course, it'll never come to Gog because people on here have "standards" and "principles" and "against shovelware" or some nonsense like that.
