Filezilla ftw.

^Signed.

Barefoot_Monkey: Konqueror is possibly the best client, provided that you're using Linux or BSD. I tend to use Filezilla on Windows.

Filezilla uses SFTP (if you choose it in the settings). Are there any other risks in using a FTP server?

mwb1100: Just be careful where you get Filezilla - some of the download sites have (or had) malware infested installers.
Even the 1st recommended download on the FileZilla homepage contains malware.
Go to https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1
The recommended downloads on those pages don't contain the malware wrapper.

Thank you for telling me, I always tought files hosted on sourceforge were malware/virus free :(

Didn't notice the sneaky "This installer may include bundled offers"....

There are reports from users who claim that despite unmarking the bundled "offers" there's still malware installed from those sourceforge downloads.

What?? I thought sourceforge hosted files were always clean... :(
That sucks beyond words...

We're only left with the option to code programs ourselves so we're sure there is no 3rd-party apps :(

Both the downloads with wrappers and the ones without are hosted on sourceforge. Sourceforge's default is wrapped installers though.

catpower1980: Last time I used a FTP program was back in 1999-2000 so I'm kinda oblivious to what's up today :o)

It's just for a few use here and there (I don't even know if I'll truly need it as I'll use wordpress) so it should be basic (put your server adress/login/password and then a GUI like windows explorer) and free (even open source?).

Thanks for enlightening me ;)
Might help to know you OS.

I suggest NOT using FTP browser addons. I used one once and then not long after that, my website was hijacked.

Mainly using Win7 for work and occasionally Win 8.1
