It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

haydenaurion: Perhaps I should also uninstall Spybot Free Edition and Malwarebytes Free Edition?
avatar
omega64: I don't think Malwarebytes would interfere, but you could always reinstall it after. ;)
Have never heard of Spybot.
Spybot is to block spyware in browsers I think. I tried the upgrade without it installed before but the upgrade still failed.

What about Windows Firewall, should I disable it before starting the upgrade?

Considering you'll be unplugged from the internet, I say it doesn't matter. Then again windows loves to lock files to resources it thinks it's using. So disable anything and everything you don't need. Then gain the upgrade probably does a reboot in a special mode with almost nothing locked I'm sure, so it once again won't matter...

Although I still don't think it's a good idea.

Shadowstalker16: Scanned with Comodo free AV and found nothing. Another tihng I find is constant 100% HDD usage in task manager. I recall someone saying it might be AV scanning new files but I haven't downloaded anything new other than the OS. Any advice? The HDD thing is making everything lag.
It's a problem that affects many systems. I wasn't able to solve it too. In the beginning I was thinking the newly installed system needed indexing files, but it wasn't the case.

It's not your AV. Some services just don't work right. I had disabled many things, but nothing helped. I think it's a "per system" problem, without a general solution (except removing Windows 10 altogether).

EDIT: It isn't a hardware (SMART) problem either - not in general at least - but if HDD continues to work at 100% rate it eventually will be.

Health status is bad. Its says ''bad'' in red just like you said lol.

Its a SMART problem as well now apparently. Interesting thing is that I didn't have the HDD working at 100% problem last night but do have it today. Seems random. I'll try a restart to see if it changes.

EDIT: reboot doesn't help. But now I wonder why it wasn't stressing my HDD yesterday.

I GOT THE BASTARD RUNNING! YES! Looks like Clean Boot did the trick.

Win 10 seems stable so far and I still have the old ass Win 7 drivers for GPU, etc. Now I just have redo some settings.

Thank you all for your help, marking this as solved.

Then don't waste time. It may be that the high use triggered the problem or made it more obvious, but if that says there's a serious problem, you should take it very very seriously. HDDs may struggle along for a little longer in case of some issues, but data's the one thing you can't just replace if anything's not backed up.

I definitely wouldn't call it a good thing, but if it makes you happy...

Try this: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-tips-fix-100-disk-usage-improve-windows-performance/

And this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/how-to-fix-100-disk-usage-in-windows-10/7c5c979b-0ed0-4855-b9b8-05b9499533e2

Had to do some tweaks for this problem too, don't want my HDD to wear out after just installing Win 10.

I think I fixed that, disk usage only spikes to 100% every now and then instead of damn near constant like before. Seemed to fix the occasional flickering taskbar too. Highly recommend you do this.

Nothing very important that not backed up, so that's not a worry. But if the HDD goes belly up I'll have to redownload all of my games on this slow-ass connection. Something worthy of note is that I did have this problem on Windows 8.1 for some reason and it went away when I deleted some downloaded files. So the HDD may have been ''sick'' from until then.......

Congratulation ! :)

If you want to delete the "old windows" folder aka "$WINDOWS.~BT" folder, I recommend, now that W10 is installed to use CLEANMGR instead of manually deleting the folder.

Thank you, but I think i'll leave it alone for now. So far Win 10 is doing pretty good though it does boot a little slower on PC startup.

If you have problems there's a way to reset your installation, does remove personal files but worth it.
Only necessary if you have some major issues though.
Upgraded Windows 10 can be a bit weird at times.

Managed to upgrade the HTPC to Windows 10 today, after installing these custom nForce drivers (before the upgrade). That allowed Windows 10 to use the network port, which allowed it to get drivers for the rest of the hardware. It's now working well. I checked basic important things like video capture, playing DVD's and the old LEGO Star Wars II GFWL running, all checked out okay.
