Why are folks deleting the manifest before updating? Thats only needed if there is a problem with the file or you've hidden games and want gogrepo to ignore them, no?

The update command will check all the games either way. I think the only real difference is you get notification of changes so changelog updates and if GOG decide to change the database names which might require you to rename the folders your files are in.

I'll turn the question back to you: what is the benefit in keeping the old manifest file, if your intention is to get all the file details all over again anyway (ie. not just check for games with a new or updated flag)?

It appears to me that quite often when people report problems with gogrepo, the quick fix is to delete the old manifest file. Maybe that is why I have seen so few issues with it because I always get a fresh new manifest file each time.

So I'd say in my case I always delete the old manifest file because I want to avoid any glitches with the gogrepo operation, and I want all file details fresh so that I also get all the silent updates which never received update flags etc.

I did contemplate adding this info when I asked, never pick the right thing.

If you leave the manifest it will tell you if fields are updated. I particularly like the change log was updated. It also tells you if the title has changed so you can easily change the folder name of the game in question. As I did mention gogrepo will always get all the data unless you tell it to do otherwise so there is no worries about silent updates indeed if they have a changelog update for that game it won't be a silent update for gogrepo.

I still don't understand what is the benefit for me. Since gogrepo gets all the data in both cases, I presume no time is saved either.

My concern was that folks might have misunderstood the behaviour and thought that the default action was to only pickup GOG flagged games. The benefit I gain is that I can easily change folders that need it with out detective work and I know which games to look at the changelog for, that may mean nothing for how you use it but I just wanted to make sure folks knew that there was a difference in effect. Also I've used the same manifest for a good long while without issue so I see no benefit from deleting the manifest.

Question: gogrepo itself doesn't report the changes, right?
With a dry run I only saw a different download size and nothing else.
I guess you're following the update thread or Yepoleb's changelog.

gogrepo do list changes.
Maybe dry run do not grab changelog?
I never use dry run so I have no idea about it.

Mm.. where is the changelog added exactly?
But I'm talking about a total summary, not per game.

Oh, no total summary indeed.
The changelog is in the manifest or when you download it gets put into the !info.txt file in the game directory.

When you run an update gogrepo will say "changelog was updated" that's my indication to go to that games page, given that too many games don't have a changelog it saves me checking each game page in vain.

You need to run a clean update, as far as I can remember. If I use just the update with no flags (clean, new, etc) then it only fetches games in which the update flag is ticked on GOG. I certainly wish it put a summary of updated games at the end. But it gets the silent updates with update -clean

paladin181: update -clean
Umm.. "clean" isn't listed in the Readme. What does it do exactly?

Update -clean doesn't exist, that's just how I identify my logs and my batch files. Sorry about that. Update (versus updateonly) is what I meant. Update will update everything including the silent updates. Updateonly will take care of only the games with an update flag. Sorry about the confusion.
Just saying, I used gogrepo.py to download Elex and it works like a charm. I did not get the Galaxy-Installer.
hey guys I am getting this when i try to download my manifest
