Well, you need to give props to their support. I mean, they need good support for their bad client, and, believe me, they have it. I never waited more than one minute to get in contact with someone from support, and they are all friendly. They even go into ass kissing most of the times, saying stuff like "oh, it's so refreshing to speak with cool people like yourself". So yea, props for that.

Regarding the OP, keep suffering. I honestly don't get all "Steam suck" posts. Ok, then don't use it. Oh, you cry after the promos, then use it. Simple as that. Act as an consumer, not as an crybaby.

You can't do a 'let's destroy Steam' sales event when you don't carry 2/3rd's of what was on sale to begin with. Also as mentioned above, publishers might balk at the idea of undercutting the biggest distribution platform, that's a ton of lost revenue (it's a false assumption that those potential buyers would just buy on GoG).

I just cannot understand this kind of thinking. Yes it would be fantastic if all Steam games were DRM-free, but to say that you wouldn't even make an account if all the games were free sounds a bit extreme to me.

Well, for me I don't use steam as I don;t want client software on my machine, and certainly don't want rentware free or not. So actually making all the games freeon steam wouldn't make me want to create an account there either. In fact all of these client driven companies generally have a lot of free stuff purely to get people chained to their client.

So whilst it may sound harsh, the underlying reasons for not using steam has nothing to do with price.

I can understand that my friend. I just wanted to understand Flanner's perspective as if it is motivated by that, it makes more sense. I guess it is just that I don't really have an underlying issue with using a client as I grew up in an era when PC gaming was even more inconvenient for me than using a Steam-like client (especially with the issue of entering in CD keys which would end up invalid or wouldn't recognize the computer after a while or some other wacky form of DRM). To each his own :)

This idea reminds me of an older episode of the Tom Green Show back when that was airing and Tom would follow around a pizza guy and try to undercut the sale by offering his pizza for a lower price.

rentware, client.. my main reasons are the same. philosophy of steam is highly unsympathetic for me. even for drm free humble bundle games u need steam account so im not intersted in hb either... and somes else.

No you don't, you can download them from Humble Bundle site. But then again, you need an web browser and an operating system, so you are chained to software too. So, nothing it's as "DRM-free" as you think. Not to mention that most games are chained of Windows, Linux or Mac these days. Chains over chains. Mancala seems like a good alternative, but graphics aren't so great, and you are still chained of an board/some holes and some stones. Oppression everywhere.

i thought that overwhelming majority of hb games can be redeemed just on steam although they are drm free and thats why you need account there. maybe im wrong but im interested in old games only anyway. maybe when i buy new computer i will try something from nowadays production but itll be more likely skyrim or gta 5 (the games i believe to be as good as classics) than indies.
but i would buy them only if they are instalable without steam (drm dont mind if not too bothering by its work)

Ah, but there is a difference here. An operating system is just that, a system on which you operate, i.e. the machine will not function without it. And a browser is also while not necessary, recommended otherwise the internet is inaccesible. However that being said, what version or producer of the two categories you use is entirely up to you, if you don't like IE (or have any sense) then you could use any of the many browsers available, if you don't like Windows, use Linux or something else. With Steam, there is no "need" for it. People have been playing games on computers for decades before Clients were invented. Its is an additional, unnecessary, layer to chain people in for the purposes of DRM and advertising. If I don't like my browser, I remove it, I can still access the internet and try other browsers, the same cannot be said for Steam (or any other client based system, battle.net, Origin etc.). As for humble, afraid I don't trust them so avoid the site completely, their take on DRM free is, to say the least, broad.
