finkleroy: GOG
tweeted that they will grant thousands of items on users' wishlists for free on Monday, so now's the perfect time to make sure yours is in order! Here's the entire tweet:
Many out of ten gamers agree: a healthy wishlist means a happy lifestyle. Especially on Monday. Here's why:
-We're granting thousands of wishes to GOG users for #free!
-The most wishlisted games will get super cheap!
Awesome, right? But we're not mind readers, so you know... (START YOUR WISHLIST)
finkleroy: I'm going to be a little cynical and say that "thousands of wishes to GOG users for #free!" means that they'll be offering a game from the Community Wishlist that's sitting at 1000+ votes for free, for a limited time. (I feel like they did something like that some time in the past, with a release of a classic or indie game that was in moderate demand.)
xenolego: Why do you guys suspect GOG would have some weird motive? They aren't Valve.
In a nutshell, arguably the most memorable times that GOG announced a piece of "Good News", was (a) when they went back on one of their core founding principles and introduced Regional Pricing, and (b) pushed Galaxy as a piece of GOG's core functionality. At both points, these were billed as customer-positive, but many saw them as cynical and insidious customer-hostile ways for Corporate to make more money while at the same time dialing back on the amount of control they were giving to customers.
Me, I'm going to wait and see what happens on Monday before I reach for my own torch and pitchfork.
