What a mess over a single game. How long have been fires burning here, already? It's not the end of the world, don't y'all think to have gone a bit too far?

RWarehall: And seriously, GoG is clearly in the position to decline games. They are either #2 or #3 when it comes to online retailers behind Steam/Valve and similar to the Humble Store.
Incidentally, the dev of Cultist Simulator just published their sales numbers. Things aren't looking too bright for gog:

itch: 170 units; 3.5k USD gross (but see note 2 below)

GOG: 3100 units; 11 units refunded; 58,300 USD gross

Humble: 7400 units; 135,000 USD gross

Steam: 93,000 units; 7800 units refunded; 1.46m USD gross

total: c.105,000 units, 1.76m USD gross

Yowza! The rule-of-thumb number that's been going around for years was that gog sells about 10% the amount of units sold on Steam. That didn't seem to apply for Cultist Simulator. Gog didn't even make it to 5%. They sold - hold your breath! - 1/30th the amount of Steam.

That's a measly 3.33%. Not 3.33% of total sales, 3.33% of what Steam alone sold. Sorry! Pathetic! Looking at those dismal numbers, not only do I think gog shouldn't be too frivolous in their rejections (i.e. rejecting anything that isn't complete, obvious shovelware), I'm positively surprised they get offered any new games at all. Their "curation" only serves to push them further into complete insignificance both for devs as well for potential customers - from a purely financial standpoint they're already pretty much insignificant

And considering those 3100 units sold for a massively advertised game like Cultist Simulator that quite a bit of heavy promotion on the front page with no less than five newsposts, those 700 wishlist votes for Grimoire don't look to bad at all.

It's not about the game. No one cares about the game. It's about "see, that guy said gog are swj, i knew it i knew it" and "wheee, a new political thread with a new excuse, ramble before they close it".

Whatever gog's motives, the fact that the dev is an asshole is the reason why he gets such vocal support in such lengthy threads. It's a channel of expression for those who recognise in him their own sentiment of having their "opinions" suppressed by "political correctness" (despite the fact that fascism is on the rise throughout the world).

When this thread will be closed, another one will be instrumentalized that way, under another excuse.

Strangely enough we already talked about that in this very thread.
Since this thread has turned into an off-topic back and forth, I'm going to lock it now.
