Usually happens when game is bought fraudulently.

Has happened before with other new and/or expensive games like Divinity: Original Sin, Pillars of Eternity, and Witcher 3. In most cases, it ended up happening because the key in question came from a 3rd-party seller.

Why doesn't GOG post a notice in your account?

You know, so the indiviual doesn't panic and jump down the wrong person's throat?

And what's wrong with a third-party seller like Kinguin?
Does GOG have something personal against those resellers or this a result of
the seller pulling his key afterwards?

They aren't legit.
They are resellers, not retailers.
Check the GOG Terms of service.

You can't buy a *key* 'Fraudulently'

And I highly doubt you can key gen serials for GOG or Steam games

I'd like to hear from GOG

There was no mail or warning what so ever

I have used both G2A and Kinguin in the past with few issues. The ones I have had were resolved.
If they were illegal they wouldn't have still been up and running this whole time.

This isn't a 'Legal' issue - it's a political one.

They are just a reseller and sometimes the keys they sell were bought with stolen credit cards (there were several cases with The Witcher 3). In that cases GOG will revoke the key.

You should contact Kinguin and ask for a refund.

Lesson I'm learning here is that I waste to god damned much money on games.

I'm no longer being respected.

The gifter has tried with no results (didn't purchase that 'security' thing)

It just seems a bit Lawful-Evil/Self Righteous not to give a heads up

As if "I should have come from a rich enough family to know better than to purchase from such underminding mendicants"

As all businesses do, looks like GOG fill it's britches past bursting point.

So between here and Steam there is no longer a lesser evil.

You absolutely can buy a key fraudulently, if the key seller got it fraudulently. As mentioned, there have been multiple instances of keysellers buying GOG keys using stolen credit cards, then reselling those keys to unsuspecting customers. There were also instances of promotional codes, like the Witcher codes that shipped with certain Nvidia hardware, being removed from their promo items and sold. Lastly there is the fact that GOG's terms state that giftable keys from GOG cannot be resold, so even if they weren't obtained fraudulently, they are still illegitimate keys. It sucks, but assuming the keyseller you got it from did one of those things, you got screwed.

Having said all that, there have been instances of a library glitch, where random games disappear for no apparent reason. Usually refreshing you account can fix that, but if it doesn't, you'll have to get GOG support to fix it.

GOG should make a General forum board sticky titled "Keys from resellers may or may not be honored and removed without warning"

If they're going to handle it Nazi they at least need the balls to back up thier decisions enough to make an official notice easy to find for all newcomers.

You've been here long enough to know better than to buy from shady dudes in back alleys. Buy from GOG with your own credit card and this isn't going to happen.

Sorry dude, but the attitude is uncalled for, especially when you're 100% in the wrong and it was gently pointed out to you by kind people.

Consider this your OFFICIAL NOTICE: Don't buy shit with other people's credit cards or from people who use other people's credit cards.

I'm going to stop buying shit period.

Sounds like a hobby only for the rich.

Balls up and post the warning on the front page.

Don't do the Vogon hyperspace bi-pass shit.

Many don't like paying full price and wait for games when they're on sale, even the "rich" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe you should be a little upset with that reseller, since they obviously knowingly violated GOG's policies, did not warn you that they were doing that, plus also required the purchase of some kind of "security" (what!?) first in order to get a refund. They are the ones that took you friend's money and ran, not GOG. That's way more evil and sketchy than GOG removing an illegitimately obtained game without notice. GOG's not really the one in the wrong here... at least this time.

Of course, this is all speculation. Unless someone from GOG actually tells you or us that they removed the game for that reason, we're just guessing this is what happened.

These threads are all the same. They always go the exact same way. At this point, I'm assuming people bother to respond just to amuse themselves.

At least this one gets style points for the Vogon reference - nicely played!
