From the Discord of Team 17 in regard of the missing update for Yoku's Island Express:

https://discord.com/invite/team17

"Unfortunately the randomizer update is only available for Steam and Epic. There are currently no plans to release on GOG"

@GOG: Please tell me and all your other customers how it can be possible that a publisher simply does not update a certain game you sold here without any reason? How is it possible that some publishers can treat GOG customers like crap and you don't do anything about it? How can you expect to keep your customers faith as long as such things do happen? We had this problem since years now and it really is time that you start to do something against it. This case once again proves that a publisher can do whatever he wants when it comes to GOG customers and you let them.

As far as I heard it should also be part of a contract between GOG and their so called "partners" (not very partner-like to treat the customers of a partner this way, don't you think?) to update their games. So I would consider this not just a breach of contract but also complete disrespect for every GOG customer and I really hope you will do something.

I'd also like to point out to the folks working at GOG that it's perfectly understandable (at least to me) if you don't have the time or staff necessary to monitor game updates on other stores and contact lax developers/publishers to make sure they push the new builds here as well.

BUT there are known examples of developers and publishers OUTRIGHT STATING that they will not bring certain updates to GOG and we know at least some of them have been brought to your attention.

This means the dev/publisher has stated their clear intention to stop supporting the GOG version of their game - and if you don't take steps to either

- force them to update their game,
- label games that are no longer supported
- or just throw those games out of the store,

then this is on you and you're showing a disregard for your user base which we don't deserve.
That's a real shame (on both Team 17 and GOG, I suppose). Well, as a community member I can provide 1 Steam key of this game, Yoku's Island Express, to one fellow GOG dweller, who'd like to play with this randomizer update in any regard.

I halfway agree and halfway disagree.

If GOG does something about this, yet at the same time continues to do absolutely nothing to stop another equally major problem, namely GOG constantly allowing games to be released on GOG without Achievements, and allowing old games to be sold without Achievements (rather than GOG demanding the publishers/devs also bring parity to old games if they want to sell them here, which GOG can and should do) even when the Steam version of the identical games do have them, then that will be an example of GOG selectively cherrypicking which form of second-class treatment is acceptable, and which isn't.

But that's no fair.

Either all forms of second-class treatment must remain acceptable, or else GOG must make them all unacceptable simultaneously.

Otherwise, if GOG were to do as the OP is proposing, but yet continues to allow feature-disparity regarding Achievements, then that would be an act of GOG discriminating against a certain section of its customer base (i.e. Achievement enjoyers), whilst showing favoritism to another section of its customer base (i.e. Achievement haters).

Another way to say that, is that GOG itself would be guilty of treating its customers like second-class citizens if it starts to selectively cherrypick which forms of disparity to allow, and which to forbid.

I absolutely agree with the OP. I'm just sick and tired asking developers and publishers for updates! This is something GOG is responsible for!
Agree with OP, I hope someone will at the very least respond to this.
I thought it was Team 17's fault that My Time at Portia wasn't updated regularly, but wasn't sure of that, at least this crap hardens my suspicions.

Fuck them, not buying a Team 17 published game anymore. Shit like that shouldn't happen.

Edit: Removed my wishlist entries. :P

Just throw Team 17 out if they can't adhere to the contract which they apparently agreed to and is a repeat offender of besides i'm sick of seeing their company name time and time again.
I'm hoping this is only a miscommunication and will come to a good resolution. Team17 has a lot of great titles under their house (past and future), and it'd be a shame to have to blacklist them.

I certainly don't see any technical reasons why this update wouldn't come to GOG. Unless they coded things ridiculously stupidly where the randomization generation happens in the cloud behind an account. Which they deserve to be smacked hard if they did that.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: blah blah blah I can't play games unless I have external validation.
We've been over this. Games that don't have client-based epeen measurement sharing schemes are *superior* versions. You're nearly alone in your perverse crusade to erase games that don't have them.

I too agree with OP, at some point, as painful as it is, it's time for GOG to hold Team17 accountable for what they plan to do or pay the consequences.

Same for Aspyr, which as the screenshot posted by user Crimson-X shows, has no intention of keeping Stubbs the Zombie updated on GOG.
Thanks for this info. Deleted all my wishlist entries from Team 17 and I am thinking about asking for a refund for Yoku. NOT nice Team 17...

I agree that Team17 has good games and I deeply respect the fact that you're giving a more nuanced opinion, but just to make this clear in case it wasn't: OP's bold quote comes directly from a Team17 employee via their Discord. I don't see how this could have been a miscommunication.
Thanks for the PSA. A shame since i own quite afew games from them, and fortunate that only one is upcoming to remove from my radar.
At this pace, soon gog won't have anymore toes to shoot themselves.

EA recently had their employee who said GOG was not an authorized seller of EA games, too. It could be as simple as that.

Perhaps I'm being generous. I definitely want to know *why* companies like Team17, or the other-mentioned Aspyr, decide not to update on GOG. Tiny teams (Stardew Valley, Rimworld, Grim Dawn, Megaquarium, Parkitect, and innumerable others) have no problems doing it. What about deploying to GOG regularly scares them?

I also do want to say I'm okay with slightly delayed updates, especially if they know they're in a flurry of regular updates and will have a bunch of hotfixes coming up. I'm OK to miss out on the little +x.y.1 hotfixes and wait for the next "stable" release, so long as it's not too long... a week at most? As I said, plenty of teams, even tiny ones, have no problems releasing their product on every platform rapidly on every release. Why do other teams not?

Is it a problem with GOG's update tools? Supposedly Galaxy made it easier for developers... But is it still too hard? Does GOG require a 100% complete, full upload every change rather than just a changed files maybe? I already know GOG doesn't require a changelog (though it can accept one). Is there a weird manual web-form upload process that an automated tool can't do? Heck, is it a CAPTCHA in the way of automation (like is harassing my expired cookie for gogrepo today...) Or is it some odd authorization issue where only a certain number of accounts (or one?) are allowed to publish the updates, and maybe they live with the publishers, causing difficulty in getting them out due to credentials?

Ancient-Red-Dragon: ...released on GOG without Achievements...
Does The Witcher 2 have achievements on GOG? There is no mention of them on the game's card here on GOG but it is declared on Steam's came card. GOG should try talking to CD Projekt Red nicely about that but I doubt such a large developer cares much about a third rate shop like GOG. Would be a good starting point in order to try bringing more achievements here.

Yes I know CD Group owns both GOG and CDPR.
