With the end of Q1 2026, we'd like to update you, our community, on a few things happening at GOG – mostly around community management and GOG Patrons – what our plans are, and what you can look forward to. All wrapped up in a format we figured we'd all feel at home with: patch notes.

So, without further ado, let's get into it.

One of our main focuses going forward is strengthening our relationship with the community. To make that happen, we've put together a dedicated task force with people from multiple departments across the company, working together to come up with, plan, and execute ideas on exactly that front. Here are some recent examples of what we've been up to:

PayPal as a payment method for GOG Patrons

One of the most frequent pieces of feedback after we launched the program was the request for more payment options – most notably, PayPal. We're happy to say that's now possible: PayPal is available as a payment method when purchasing a Patrons membership.

A note: we are working on the ability to easily switch payment methods mid-subscription. It should be available in the coming weeks. For now, Patrons who want to change their payment method still need to cancel their membership, wait for it to expire, and then resubscribe using the new method. We know that's not ideal, and we're working on a proper solution now.

GOG Patrons in GOG GALAXY

We've added the ability to access the GOG Patrons Hub, the GOG Patrons landing page, and your Patrons settings directly through GOG GALAXY. If you prefer the client over the browser, you can now reach everything from one place.

GOG Patrons Hub and its expansion

This one's probably on your radar already, but we've created a dedicated space for Patrons on our website – a single, easy-to-access home for all the exclusive video content we produce. The idea was simple: not everyone is on Discord, and Patrons who prefer a different way of engaging with GOG shouldn't miss out.

Beyond that, the Hub gives us a real foundation to build on. One of the features we're currently exploring is bringing Preservation Program voting directly into the Hub, so you can weigh in on which games we should focus on.

Better communication and a more proactive approach

We're currently restructuring our Customer Relations team with a broader goal in mind: not just handling support tickets, but being genuinely more present in the community. That means more frequent and transparent communication – on the Forum, on Discord, and other places.

New Community Manager

Some of you may have noticed that we recently opened a recruitment process for a new Community Manager at GOG. Their primary focus will be growing and nurturing the community, with a particular emphasis on GOG Patrons. We’ll properly introduce the new CM as soon as they arrive.

Our current Community Manager, Jed, will be moving into a new role within the Business Development team, where he'll focus on acquiring indie games for GOG. But good news for those who like the guy: his new role in Business Development will still keep him close to the community, so you haven't seen the last of him ;)

Impact Update

One of the more important projects currently in development is something we're calling the Impact Update. The idea is straightforward: a regular report that gives the community a clearer picture of how Patrons' support contributes to our preservation work – including, where we’re able to share them, glimpses at roadmaps, progress on reviving classics, future plans, and more.

We want to do this properly, so we're not going to put a date on the first one just yet. But it's coming – and our intention is for it to become a recurring part of our communication with the community.

More glimpses behind the scenes

Beyond the report, we're exploring other ways to be more open. That includes regular AMAs with the Business Development team, interviews with various people from across GOG, and a blog series giving a closer look at our work and what goes on behind the scenes.

On that note, in the coming weeks, we'll be hosting a listening session on the GOG Patrons Discord. We want to ask you questions regarding various topics in the community management area, so that we know what you expect, what can be further improved, and what you'd like to see. We'll share the exact details, including timing and format, via Discord and email when we have everything planned out.

That's the update for now. It might not be the flashiest patch notes ever shipped, but it's an honest one – and we think that matters more. Thanks for being part of this. Every month of support and every piece of feedback shapes what we're building here. We'll keep you posted as things develop, and we genuinely look forward to hearing from you at the Q&A.

Yours truly,
The GOG Team

GOG.com: One of our main focuses going forward is strengthening our relationship with the community.
From my POV You have been going in the opposite direction. Like:
1. Forum Censorship. There used to be threads about other places which got nuked. Etc.
[Edit: REMOVED, found it]
3. Apparent removal of game collections made by users.
(Im aware that all the above included things GOG probably didnt like which is the likely reason for removal.)

GOG.com: PayPal as a payment method for GOG Patrons

One of the most frequent pieces of feedback after we launched the program was the request for more payment options – most notably, PayPal. We're happy to say that's now possible: PayPal is available as a payment method when purchasing a Patrons membership.
You should use proper somewhat censorship resistant payment options (which dont require 2FA on GOG) in general. Like why cant EU people pay with SEPA realtime? Or some cryptos.

Also GOG lost a lot of trust in the past. If there wouldnt be new leadership I wouldnt even have made this post.

1) I imagine things are happening all the time via atomic motion though space, but some of them are considered beneath mention, such as whatever chickadee the head of product posted to their Instagram.

2) Strengthen? Imagine if you would, the number of holes this hypothetical bridge you're offering to us, has. This bridge needs repaired, not strength. The number of aggravated communications failures have been staggering, and it doesn't take a "task force" to realize that.

[Skipping to the part that's relevant to a peasant like me...]

3) And we've already hit a redundant point. It beggars belief that the point is already being repeated.

4) Congratulations on the sideways promotion, I imagine it would not be an enviable position to have to clean up the messes the previous public relations have made. I suggest a handwritten apology to Polytron for a start.

5) I imagine community management to be equally unenviable. My suggestions are to close the Twitter/X account, exile from Facebook, and set up a presence on the Fediverse somewhere.

6) And I for one, am prepared to hear a lot of vague intonations, and not so much in the way of credible information, seeing as most legal departments operate on cowardice.

7. This frankly doesn't sound like it'd be that revealing. Something akin to this:

1. Call company. Get hung up on because the receptionist is a ditz who's only there because the lowest manager thinks in old Flight Attendant terms.
2. Call again, but this time insist that GOG is a serious company. Get transferred to the wrong department. Sigh and explain. On hold. Transfer. Wrong dept. Hold. Call disconnected.
3. A third call, but this time to the legal dept. They insist on faxed proof of company authenticity. Swear under breath and go to nearby copy facility to comply.
4. They forget to call back. Give up on calling and instead try email.
5. Intern answers email, wonders why you didn't call. Explain you did. Email forwarded to actual legal person.
6. Lawyer is surprised anyone would be inquiring about selling game that's older than 5 years old. Will have to go up chain.
7. Lawyer bungles, BCCs when they meant to CC the CTO. Spend workweek straightening out answers between 5 disparate parties inside the company, including the Janitor who somehow got involved in the email chain.
8. Arrange formal netmeeting.
9. During, before, or after the meeting, get a ping from a third party who happened to have a hand or concern about the game, who has the legal credibility to do so. Swear under breath.
10. Listen to concern of third party. Roll a d20. If 20, proceed to next step. If anything less than 20, repeat steps 1-10.
11. Hooray! All the obvious legal obstacles are resolved! Now to try and contact former engineers! Roll a d20:
1-5: Resent the company and will have nothing to do with it.
6-8: Are dead.
9-15: Moved to Morocco and are living under an alias.
16-19: Long have forgotten the secrets of their own code.
20: Are happy to cooperate and work with all parties.
12. Now that you've found someone willing to work on the technical issues, or will be grinning and bearing it yourself, look into solutions others have posted around the internet. d100, consult table. [Not included here.]
13. Phew! That was arduous! Somehow you managed to glue together 4 pieces of tech without it exploding. Op! Legal dept says you need to find replacement glue. Repeat 6-9.
14. Okay! Time to deploy this game page and call it a weekend!
15. Your inbox explodes because you forgot to deploy the game page and/or a critical fix wasn't actually pushed because the VCS you used didn't actually save the last local parts before publishing.
16. Congratulations, you've saved a mediocre game and it'll be pulled in two years after the publisher whines about poor sales of a game that wasn't worth 5 quid in the first place. Scream into pillow.
But sure, if you want to "pull the curtain back", go ahead?

Zrevnur: 2. Apparent removal of Wishlist. Or maybe I simply couldnt find it. The "Dreamlist" apparently only includes games not features and behavior.
The community wishlist is still where it's always been (Community menu => community wishlist). The games section there is in read-only mode, but everything else is still functional.

Zrevnur: 3. Apparent removal of game collections made by users.
I'm assuming you're talking about GOG mixes here? Wow, that's an old one. This is an extremely costly feature to implement (I'd like to at some point revive the concept on GameSieve, and have been kicking the tires on how to go about it, but yeah, I can see why they removed it on GOG).

Yes, thanks, found it already due to some other post in here.

They had a working feature and killed it. And it was useful for users. And members of the community put in effort to keep their lists updated. Edit: Yes I meant GOG mixes.

Zrevnur: Or some cryptos.
Computers screaming maths at each other is not a useful bargaining tool, especially when said tool has a habit of vanishing frequently into the aether with no recovery and no central authority.

So all of this is fine at all but when will we the un-patroned mass actually notice a difference after being unshackled from CDP?

As its been a few months now and offline installers are still the same, and have the same issues, website as kinda gotten worse with the massive GOG Galaxy button on the top bar (I block that in UBlock) but it is still as terrible as it was under CDP, forums are still the same they are unchanged still all the same aging issues.

It just feels like unless you're a patron nothing seems to be being worked on or changing at all.

After this update, two things are still true:

1. I am completely uninterested in giving you free money.
2. If you start trying to force me to join Patrons by locking away features, I will stop giving you ANY money.

I'm concerned that GOG's entire service is going to become Patrons Galaxy, and at that point you're far, far worse than basically all of your competition.

I see the thread turned out close to what I expected.

Of course cryptos are useful if you care about not being censored by credit card companies. And they dont have 'habit's far as Im aware, humans however do have. And lots of bad ones too, one of them is abusing their power for censorship. And those who dont like cryptos wouldnt have to use them so I dont see why anybody would reasonably be against it.

GOG making themselves dependent on pro-censorship US (and other) companies is not what I want. Adding crypto payment option would help with this.

The only thing I am happy from all this is that Jed will get a promotion. Very cool and friendly guy. Hopefully he can manage to bring some quality indies that have not been released on gog

Now, I don't use PayPal very much, but I am baffled at the idea of implementing paying through PayPal... but only if you subscribe to the GoG Very Special Customers service. GoG is a store, and presumably you want people to buy products. If you're enabling PayPal for Very Special Customers, why can't you implement it for everyone?

If they don't have PayPal in your region then thats likely a regional issue as I can use PayPal fine on GOG here in the UK.

I reckon this has to do with the automated recurring payment (of 5 eurodollars a month) which only selected payment methods (such as credit cards and Paypal) support.

Not interested in the Patrons stuff, but I will look out for those promised improvements to the community work.
