nmillar: Sorry, how do you perceive this to give us an advantage, and what does a "major run of bad luck" entail?
ZFR said it would, and he's the "good with maths" player, so if he says it gives us an advantage then I tend to believe such....ergo we likely have one now.

As for a major run of bad luck: things like mislynching many times, the IC being NKd before coming out, etc
(or people actually coming to me for advice on how to play the game ;D)
avatar
Lifthrasil: Of course. That's what we are trying to do in any case.
Trying being the operative word....hopefully we'll do more than try.

avatar
Lifthrasil: @nmillar: anything to share?
Nmillar already stated that they're vanilla town in post 402.
@nmillar: with 'something to share' I meant anything beyond 'nope, vanilla' or asking easy questions. Any input of your own? Any suspicions or theories for posterity, in case you actually are Town? Anything we can work with?

avatar
nmillar: Am I the only one that finds it weird to try and identify the scum team all in one go? I normally wait until we have one confirmed before looking at how they've interacted with other people to put the pieces together.
You find it weird to try to 'identify the scum team in one go'? There are several reasons to do that. One: bragging rights, which aren't serious. Two: trying to detect players working together. Do two players seem too organized together? Those can be small tells. Of course, once one scum is down, we analyze that players interactions with more scrutiny. But first we have to find one scum and there behaviour analysis can help.

What's your suggestion how to find that 'one confirmed scum', if not by looking at interactions? Random shooting?

Lifthrasil: What's your suggestion how to find that 'one confirmed scum', if not by looking at interactions? Random shooting?
That'd be more my last ditch go to idea. ;D

(also a boomp if needed)

Lifthrasil: What's your suggestion how to find that 'one confirmed scum', if not by looking at interactions? Random shooting?
No, by looking for "scum tells" on an individual basis. I'm not restricting myself to tunneling on one player, but I'm not immediately looking for people who appear to be working together. Once one scum is identified, then it's much easier to look at how they've interacted with the rest of the player base to identify potential scum buddies.

That's just the way I play, and I'm not suggesting that's the way everyone should be playing - it's just what works for me.

So going along with somebody else's theory rather than coming up with your own? Somebody else was picked up for this, weren't they ... ?

OK. Fair enough. And my other question? Any results from your looking for scum tells?

That's also what Lift said in that post(408) you just quoted:

"Of course, once one scum is down, we analyze that players interactions with more scrutiny."

avatar
nmillar: So going along with somebody else's theory rather than coming up with your own?
Going along with a confirmed town & one that is good with the math aspect of the game? Then yes.

Also it's me....usually my own ideas/suspicions aren't always the best, as you likely recall.

nmillar: Somebody else was picked up for this, weren't they ... ?
Picked up?

dedoporno: VOTE COUNT

GymHenson 2 - Pookina (#332), nmillar (#372)
Lifthrasil 1 - Microfish_1 (#353)
nmillar 3 - Lifthrasil (#378), Bookwyrm627 (#389), GymHenson (#400)
trentonlf 1 - Microfish_1 (#364)
Is Microfish actually a double-voter? Or was that an error? ;-)

GymHenson: Picked up?
It plays a large part in Lifthrasil's case against me. I haven't presented any scum reads of my own, and have simply agreed with analysis that others have provided, particularly on yourself and Lift.

avatar
Lifthrasil: @nmillar: with 'something to share' I meant anything beyond 'nope, vanilla' or asking easy questions. Any input of your own? Any suspicions or theories for posterity, in case you actually are Town? Anything we can work with?
I'm going to have a re-read of everything, as I know I've been pretty lazy in this game so far. I might actually read some of GH's posts and see if there's anything in there other than a wall of text that doesn't ever seem to get to the point.

We've still got a day and a half, so please give me a few hours.

Are you trying to suggest that me and Lift are the scum team, and that(if we were) we'd be so obvious about it?

Oh, I believe I can get to the point well enough when needed...like in the bits of the post I made above that you didn't reply to(you replying only to the end bit and skipping the rest, which wasn't just fluff by me)
avatar
trentonlf: LOL, in my opinion whoever the IC is should have claimed Day 1 and a lynch should have happened also. I am in the minority probably in that opinion, but eh I'll still voice my opinion on it. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with me suggesting whoever the IC is claims because hiding is IMO the wrong play for them. I know you don't see it that way and that's your prerogative, and my prerogative is for them to claim because I feel we gain more by them claiming than them trying to hide.
Just to be clear, I don't have a problem with you voicing your opinion on it (and I don't necessarily disagree with you). My objection was to your implicit claim essentially forcing the IC to go along with it, not giving them a choice in the matter. I was arguing in favour of letting them decide, not for or against claiming.

Suggest they claim by all means, but don't intentionally reduce their potential hiding places.

Lifthrasil: Is Microfish actually a double-voter? Or was that an error? ;-)
Pinging to ask what you think re: Nmillar seeming to just repeat part of what you said in post 408 in their post 410(I illustrate what I mean in post 412, first bit).

my name is capitayn catte: Suggest they claim by all means, but don't intentionally reduce their potential hiding places.
Won't that happen as town players claim anyways?

I mean, should we rather have town vanilla players say "no comment" or similar and possibly get suspected/mislynched as a result, or have them lie about being the IC?
avatar
FlockeSchnee: Is day-chat really that useful? To experienced players? Which you all are?
avatar
blotunga: Very useful from past experience.
Town points for blotunga; I don't think he would have openly-admitted how useful day chat is so quickly if he was scum. Worth noting that Lifthrasil also responded in the same way in the very next post, but no idea how long after blotunga's post this was.

avatar
FlockeSchnee: Is day-chat really that useful? To experienced players? Which you all are?
avatar
Lifthrasil: It is. It allows scum to coordinate their attacks and defenses. It's usefulness increases somewhat with the number of scum player, but even with two scum having a secret channel is useful.

In a three-scum setup I rated giving them Day-chat as half an additional player. Don't know how big the advantage is mathematically for two scum. But it definitely is there.
Bookwyrm627 is the first to throw any shade at GymHenson.

avatar
Bookwyrm627: We have GymHenson serving waffles.

Something feels off there.

Unvote Catte
Vote GymHenson
In the very same post, then goes on to call out the those yet to make an appearance.

avatar
Bookwyrm627: In other news, Micro, Catte, Nmillar, and Pookina have yet to make an appearance.
Calling out lurkers is a common scum strategy, but then we're assuming Bookwyrm627 is playing to the meta.

Microfish_1 is the next to call out those who haven't made an appearance.

avatar
Microfish_1: In other other news, we are waiing for Catte & Nmillar to show
Bookwyrm627 proceeds to apply pressure to GymHenson.

avatar
GymHenson: With me, everything feels off sooner or later....just ask all the regulars here.

Anyway, what's this about some waffles? Do I like like a wise cracking donkey to ya? ;D
avatar
Bookwyrm627: Your first post hemmed and hawed more than an indecisive politician who doesn't want to choose wrong.
Lifthrasil is the first to notice how quickly ZFR has garnered votes.

avatar
Lifthrasil: unvote ZFR

I don't like how quickly he got to three votes. So it's time to remove my RVS vote.
And that's it for the first page, other than a substantial number of posts regarding ZFR's mathematical genius.

So, what does that conclude so far? Having had a proper read of the first page, Lifthrasil goes down the suspects list for openly admitting that day chat is useful and noticing the speed at which ZFR picked up votes.

blotunga also moves to the leaning-town list for the speed at which the question was answered regarding the usefulness of day chat.

On the other side, Bookwyrm627 and Microfish_1 both go to the leaning scum list for calling out people who hadn't made an appearance very early into the day.

I'm un-moved on GymHenson so far.

Leaning Town: Lifthrasil, blotunga
Leansing Scum: GymHenson, Bookwyrm, Microfish_1

To be continued.

That would happen eventually but there's just no reason to intentionally speed up that process. I see Trent's action as an attempt to force the IC into the open - whether that's a scummy action or just pushy town (which Trent can be) I'm not sure.
