A wide, circular space; a concrete floor lined with barred cages. Cold floodlights far above activate suddenly. In the shadow beyond those lights the buzz of a crowd swells to a roar, as a magnified voice echoes throughout the stadium.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, a very warm welcome to tonight's Pokemon Death Match!
The betting booths are currently open, and if you turn your attention to the display screens, you will shortly be able to see tonight's participants, who will soon be released.
This tournament features twelve participants: Nine challengers, trying to beat the odds and survive, and, hidden among them, three kiiiiiiiiiiiiiillleeer pokemon!!"

The crowd roars again, the echoing noise is overwhelming. It doesn't sound human.

"Details of the individual participants are included in the programme of tonight's events, and will be shown on the display screens and at the betting booths. You can place your bets now, ladies and gentlemen. Why not see if you can get rich off those lucky early odds?
You can place your bets on any of the phases: First is the battle phase, where the participants fight it out to eliminate one pokemon from the tournament: Will the challengers successfully eliminate the killers? Or will they fight among each other? After the battle phase comes the action phase: Participants return to their cages, where the killer pokemon are loose to remove a participant permanently. Who will the killers target? Will the target fight back? Will any of the challengers try and swing the odds in their favour with a cunning strategy?"

Rules

1. JoeSapphire Moderates this game. Contact him with game actions, queries, suggestion, praise, enthusiasm, corrections, et cetera.

2. The game is split into two phases - The Battle phase, and The Action phase. During the voting stage players may write on the page, and target a player with their attacks. The aim of an attack is to achieve elimination of a single player. Once the majority of current players are targeting a single player with their attacks, that player will be eliminated. Then the battle phase will end and the action phase will begin. During the action phase no players may write on this page. The action phase ends once the deadline has been reached, and the battle phase will begin again.

3. Attacks should be phrased thusly: Tackle HypersomniacLive. If you want to stop attacking a player, it should be phrased thusly: Untackle HypersomniacLive. (To suit the game, I'm replacing the typical 'votes' with 'attacks'. In function they are exactly the same, and if everybody decides that attacking it too much of a confusing faff, 'votes' will be counted in the same way. A variety of attacks will be allowed: For example - Tail Whip Bler144, Growl Cristigale, Pound Telika, Ungrowl Cristigale.) Each player may attack any other living player. A player may attack only one player at a time. An attack may be withdrawn by unattacking. A player who is being attacked by the majority of living players will be immediately eliminated, their role will be made public knowledge, and the game will go to the action phase.
A player may also vote no elimination. A majority vote of no elimination will end the battle phase without an elimination.

All players have received a role. Here is a sample role:

Growlithes are highly social creatures, who eat, sleep and hunt in large packs. In the wild, it is this that gives them their significant advantage as predators, much more so than the glands in their mouths which spray highly combustible oils, for which this species is best known. Domesticated growlithes are well-known to make loyal and faithful companions.

Hello Telika! You are Madiyah the Growlithe
Special move: Fire Spin
Team: neither Challengers, nor Killers. Your teammates are JoeSapphire and Elebutterfly
You haven't been sold to Team Rocket, and you aren't participating in a pokemon death tournament. You are far away from here enjoying time with your trainer and other pokemon friends. Life is good.

ABILITIES: Once per action phase you can target a player. That player will be removed from the game for between 2-5 turns.

The cage doors that line the arena suddenly swing open with an electronic buzz. The participants, uncertain in the gloom, confused by the noise and smells, slink into the ring.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, the participants have entered the arena. How will they leave? Will the challengers successfully Kay-Oh their hidden predators, or will they be chow for the killers' victory dinner? Betting will remain open throughout the tournament ladies and gentlemen, but the odds will change as the game progresses. Place your bets now ladies and gentlemen, and you may win big money! Good luck ladies and gentlemen!"

The first battle phase will end on 30th August at the latest.

First observation: with votes now also possibly being named some kind of move, searching for "vote" isn't going to be practical.

Second observation: SirPrimalForm, you should have died last game! Die Die Die!

Frustration SirPrimalForm
Uhm, Pokemon??? I have no idea what it entails, I mean nothing at all. So for my sanity I will be voting and not growling? or attacking?

As usual, I start with a random.org vote. It's...

Low Kick Trentonlf

Also, let me just say welcome everyone, especially new players. It's so good to be playing again. It's Saturday,, the sun is shining, I'm fully of ice-cream and everything is wonderfull.

PS, I've learnt my lesson and I'm not Low-Kicking myself.

Greetings gentlemen & gentleladies. My first game of Mafia, although I've played Secret Hitler.

So let's talk Town Tactics. The Pros & Cons of 'vote no elimination' in round 1? Does that play into Mafia hands?

Is anyone open to talking about their role? Or do you prefer to keep the cards close to your chest?

Not attacking anyone just yet, going to sit back and feel this one out for now.

Hello and welcome to the game!

1. A no lynch should never happen, especially on Day 1, except in extenuating circumstances. Last game we no lynched on Day 1 and it was bad for us.

2. On talking or revealing roles, NO! No PM talk at all should happen, it breaks games and is scummy (especially on Day 1). Later in the game it’s inevitable that roles will be talked about, but no reason at all on Day 1 unless someone is claiming becaise they are close to being lynched.

It's almost never good to vote no-elimination. First round or otherwise. The town's only way of killing mafia is through lynch, so they need to use that wepon.

The only situtation I can see this being beneficial is if you're in a later stage at MYLO (Mislynch-and-Lose) but can still afford a No-Lynch vote (e.g. 3 town vs 1 mafia) AND they expect the town power-roles to give extra info at night.
But maybe more experience mafia players can give more info here.

heh. I'm fairly new myself, but I learned pretty much day 1 first game, that these questions can get you killed simply for suggesting them.
I'll try a short answer:
-no lynch is generally bad for town, because no info (aside from maybe cop reads at night) because no lynchwagon to analyze and no flip from the lynchee (which helps put discussion in perspective) but a free nk for mafia.
-roletalk: generally bad for town because trent lynches you for it (and mafia gets info on who to kill)
-not attacking anyone just yet: no fun :P it's random voting stage (RVS), go kick someone it's the one time in game you can do it without having to give a good reason
-(bonus point: if you wonder if using random.org for voting is a good Idea: don't. people got killed for that too, see argument above: random.org is no good reason for voting someone (but zfr made it his thing in rvs and he wasn't lynched for it yet, so I guess it's ok for him)
SirPrimalform:

Hmmm, I Tackle ZFR for non-compliance.
