vanchann: Until now Fantasy General and Mount and Blade keys have been invalidated without notice.

Klumpen0815: and Constructor, it had a "never" expiration date as well and was only valid for a week or so.
Yeah, I had to ask Support to remove that one from my orders list. Wasn't really miffed about that, though, 'cause the other giveaway code (reusable and not account-linked) is still valid. ;D

Timboli: I have just been back through all my saved web pages as well, and while I have a saved copy of the Reclaim pages for the other freebie games, there is not one for Fantasy General, so that also confirms what I remember, that I never had to reclaim it, it just appeared in my library after one of my purchases ... I made several.
Fantasy General, unlike the other two games, was a proper giveaway -- no purchase required. You had to click the button on the front-page banner. So, yes, if you didn't already own it, and you clicked the "Get it" button, then it would automatically show up in your library (unlike the other two freebies, which came as codes in e-mails regardless of whether you already owned them or not).

Can confirm this that mount and blade key expired even though it said never expire, i didn't get the chance to give or trade it to anyone.
Saints row 2 is still okay it said never expire but eador genesis will expire on 10 july for me as we received emails for eador because the first code was wrong.
My code for Fantasy General was invalidated too. I was planning to give it to a friend but hadn't done so yet. I appreciate getting a gift but to lose this because I had already paid for the game just sucks.
*Edit* Put in a support ticket, will let you know the outcome.

Paranoid about posting this but here is an email I sent and got a reply for immediately.

Me:

Hi,

The Escapists was a free code issued to me last year. On the redeem page whenever I checked in the past it always stated that this code "Never Expires" but today when I checked, the code had expired.

Is there a reason for this, I can't find any info anywhere stating that these codes that state "Never Expires" actually expire.

I would have used it for my account if I had known, is it possible for you to please add it to my account?

In the future I will redeem them early on.

Thank you

Reply:

Hello,

As that code was generated during a giveaway which had an expiration date, I'm afraid I cannot offer any kind of replacement. In case of any future problems please redeem the gift codes for free games from giveaways during said giveaways to be safe - they can extend a bit, but will not be redeemable forever. Gift codes that are bought do not expire.

From the The Sleepy Sheep Insomnia Sale FAQ:
7) How much time do I have to redeem my free game?

The free game codes will expire on April 28, 2016, 1:59 PM GMT.

I apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding.

All the best

Me:

Ok, thank you for your quick and helpful response.

Further from GOG:

Hello,

No worries - and I again apologize for the misunderstanding. We're working on it - I cannot promise, however, when the "NEVER" displayed for the expirable codes will be fixed.
Have a great day!

All the best

Hope that helps you guys

So we have to check FAQs and other such pages in order to tell if a promo code is truly never expiring? Why don't they just add that info to the redeem page as-is?
I can attest keys showing "Never Expire" while having an expiration date is indeed a bug.

I had a promo key for SimCity 2000 I got from a sale long ago, that was supposed to have an expiration for a month later,
but It showed "Never Expire" every time I checked it, right until the last day... then it expired the day after.
When I contacted support about the issue they said there isn't anything they can do, and didn't offer to add it to my account either, even though support didn't mention it was a bug at the time.

The expiration of assigned (to account) gifts (that originated from promos) is new though, and I have never seen these get invalidated before, other then on very rare occasions, such as due to abuse (like the triple fallout bundle).
As this is a new and atypical behavior, no one could assume assigned gift keys may just die without notice.
My constructor gift not working a short while after due to being invalidated without any notice is particularly ominous.
I just hope other gift keys originating from older promos (where you had the option to choose to convert them to gift keys instead of redeeming) won't start to die un announced.
Good thing games we own are stored on servers beyond our control. Otherwise, GOG would have to break into our apartments when they feel like stealing our shit.
???

then i will check my never expiring gift keys ....

brb :D
Where do you check for gift keys? I remember I used to have a list right in my GOG account page which displayed the keys but I forgot where to access it.
do they also plan to put a time limit on the regularly purchased games' gift keys too ?

because, well, for the free giveaways, it is disappointing that some suddenly expire when they were initially not supposed to, and new ones expire faster than initially claimed...

but, well, if i purchase a game to make a gift and the key suddenly expires i may be very upset, and obviously will ask for refund

your account - orders and settings

the screen looks like this: i made a screenshot :

seems everything is checked by default , with the exception of the refunded orders checkmark .

I had a non-expiring code become invalid, I sent an email to support and they sent me a valid key in response.

Judging from the email response posted on the previous page, I'd say it's best now to assume that purchased gift codes do not expire, but all others will after the given circumstance where you get the gift code (sale, whatever) has passed.
Hmm, I have an unredeemed code for Mount and Blade, so if anyone's interested, grab it while it's still functional: 54F68-B9C42-9498C-C5A2B
I have a code for Fantasy General. It might not work according to eariler posts, but you can always try.
