Hi,

I am trying to launch gog galaxy and it is not starting.

I just reinstalled windows 10 recently from a ghost I store on a backup disk. What is weird is that my previous system was based on this ghost too, and I had no problem with gog galaxy.

I also have issues with steam which could be related to the same issue in my system (steam is not capable to create shortcuts, I get a blank icon on the desktop, named as <game name>.url )

Sounds more like some kind of political statement than an error message.

Thanks, I opened a bug, but I do not think it will be taken care off since it seems more a windows 10 issue than a client issue.

Anyone else would have an idea ?

Here's a shot in the dark: the "elevated" part of the log file name makes me think that you're trying to run Galaxy with elevated privileges aka "run as administrator". Then Galaxy for whatever reason tries to reduce its privileges or to de-elevate, but fails. Have you tried running Galaxy normally? If I'm wrong and you're not trying to run it as administrator, well... try to run it as administrator just to see what happens.

Did you get the latest version of Galaxy after restoring Windows?

Yes, latest version, nope, not running in admin mode. I've tried both by the way ;(

I totally reinstalled window 10, from scratch. It solved the issue and some others.

I still have no clue why this ghost restore came with so many problems, maybe a miss manipulation. It is probable a simple reinstallation of the ghost would have been sufficent.

As for the exact cause of the issue, I still have no clue.

I had this problem too. It seems to occur if you have security software running that prevents certain calls to user management methods and if you run the client with administrator rights.

Solution: Create a standard user without administration rights (if you do not have already one).
Either run it logged in as this user anyway OR shift+right click the file link to GOG Galaxy and choose run as other user.
Use the account and it should launch. Took me quite some time to figure the reason out.
