falloutttt: Please add the sound back for achievements.

Or better yet, make it possible to turn it on/off. Since not everyone like it as it seems.

Thanks!

BKGaming: Anyone else getting disk access errors with this update? I haven't had disk access errors in a long time, but am getting them now when trying to import 2 games that were installed via standalone installers.

Indeed. Did some testing, seems to be fixed.
Good day,

Over the past weeks the Galaxy client (GC) has become increasingly chatty, so much so it affects my use of my internet. This isn't while I am downloading a game or cloud syncing, but randomly during the time i am on my system. I only have currently (on my desktop I am referring to) Oblivion and Kingmaker installed.

I play EverQuest (MMO) and this is where I noticed it. Suddenly I would see latency jump from 80-100ms to 600ms+ even reaching 900ms+ for extended periods, long enough I woudl give up and end my play. I have slowly been traciong the issue, even to the extent of testing a new modem (mine was old anyway).

From VS to firewall, to Steam client, to windows updates it all seems to end or never appear when I shut down my GC. So it now doesnt get loaded on startup, a first since its release. So far, and a few more days will confirm, that it appears if the GC is not loaded i have zero issue. When its running, good bye bandwidth. As an aside i have less issues with netflix quality now too.

What concerns me most is who, what, where, Why?
What Data is being sent, so much of it it affects other things on my connection.
Where is this data going?
Who is using it?
And most importantly why?

Side note, I started my GC to post this, and guess what? Yep you bet, I have latency issues. It has been hammering my internet for a while now, and I am darn sure it isnt Oblivion updates and Kingmaker, no matter how much it needs it, not released a patch recently, and its not cloud syncing saves.

So i guess my question is.....what is going on behind the curtain?

Hi guys, I have a question.

I installed GoG Galaxy only to play some games online that require it.

All my other games I keep installing via the offline installer.

However, I noticed when I run these standalone games, they will still communicate to the GoG website what I'm currently playing. How can I prevent this connection other than plugging out my ethernet cable when I launch the game?

You can't and that's considered a feature not a bug.

That's horrible and I feel it's a breach of my privacy. Is that even legal?

I'm pretty sure this is legal since you agree to it via terms of use/privacy policy when you sign up to GOG. Your only option is to uninstall Galaxy which I did years ago for the very same reason.

Block them using you Antivirus/Security software.

Actually not running Galaxy in the background should be enough. Or logging out in Galaxy (no account connected then).

Galaxy can be set to not automatically start with Windows. Sadly closing it, only moves it to the tray - where you have to explicitly "Quit". I want the option back that [x] is "real quit"...

Also make sure your links to the games are really to the games, and not Galaxy. Often links end up as "start Galaxy with a parameter to start the game". When in doubt, launch from the game's exe-File.

Unfortunately not running it does not work. Galaxy is in fact not running on my system, I already removed it from autostart. However, if I run a standalone game, it still starts the "GoG Galaxy Communication Service" process which I assume is the one who then transmits my gaming data. Killing it doesn't work either, it seems to immediately restart.

But I guess I could try with logging out before closing it.

You can also disable the services involved before starting the game, and reactivate them after quitting it:

(use these commands in a CMD console with elevated privileges)

== BEFORE LAUNCHING THE GAME to disable them ==

sc stop GalaxyCommunication
sc config GalaxyCommunication start=disabled

sc stop GalaxyClientService
sc config GalaxyClientService start=disabled

== AFTER QUITTING THE GAME to reenable them ==

sc config GalaxyClientService start=demand
sc config GalaxyCommunication start=demand

You can start gog galaxy in offline mode. And you can set the two services easy to manuel.

Go into the files where you installed it and cut and patse only the game files to another folder. Then just start the game from that folder. You should be able to scrub any trace of gog off your machine and still run the game
