tfishell: Is there a way to prevent Galaxy from showing up in the icons bar in the bottom right? Once I exit I don't want to have Galaxy hanging around.

And even if I exit it still uses memory as processes shown in Task Manager > Processes? Any way to prevent that from happening? Helper.exe, Notifications Renderer.exe, etc.

I literally just want to use Galaxy to download backup installers and install them outside Galaxy. That's all GOG. please
The reason GOG is still in the notification area is that the program doesn't exit when you close the window. If you want to exit completely, you can either press the gog logo which is above your games list (the menu button) and select 'exit'; or you can right-click the gog logo in the notification area and select exit there.

(I don't like this behaviour either; but it isn't unprecidented. Both steam, and the battle.net app do the same thing; although battle.net at least has an option to change it.)

Ever since the 1.2.51 or 1.2.50 update Galaxy has constantly gotten stuck downloading for me. I queue up games to download when I go to bed and Galaxy will stop downloading in the the middle of the download after a few games and stay at 0.0 MB/s.

I have the same issue.
I can't get GOG Galaxy to run. Installs but on start I get "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime|1-1-0.ddl is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I know, it's due to not having the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable not installed but I can't install it. I try to install x64 on my 64-bit Windows 7 SP1 computer but get a strange error at the end with install log excerpt:

\x64\Windows6.1-KB2999226-x64.msu" /quiet /norestart'

I have the 2005, 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2014 VC++ Redistributables installed. I tried installing Visual Studio Express 2017 but it fails when it gets to the 2015 Redistributable part.

I tried installing 6.1-KB2999226 as a fix since the log mentions that but get "The update is no applicable to your computer." I am choosing the Windows 7 x64 exe.

Read through gog.com/forum/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt/how_can_i_play_my_games_without_galaxy to no avail.

Same error preventing me from installing GWENT. Not a big deal on that front though.

I've reported this issue on mantis here: http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=5919

For now, I've stopped using Galaxy to download games.... I can't deal with it. Instead, I will use my browser and download offline installers then import.

Try installing this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2999226/update-for-universal-c-runtime-in-windows then Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable.
make a copy of your personal files and install windows new. this is often quicker then find the solution of the error.
Is there any way to prevent Galaxy from popping into the foreground or stealing/retaining focus when you start a game from an external shortcut? You need to run games through Galaxy to get reliable cloud save behaviour, but the clients focus shenanigans make this a downright pain. If it weren’t for the fact that Galaxy wasn’t the best way of keeping games updated as well as game devs still opting for non-standard locations for save data, I’d be giving serious thought to jettisoning it entirely in favour of using an external cloud provider and symlinks.
Hey,

we have released a 1.2.52 version of GOG Galaxy to Beta updates channel (they can be enabled in GOG Galaxy settings)

Most notably it includes an update of Chromium to version 71, fixing bugs and making GOG Galaxy use even less resources than before!
Apart from that, we've put some work make GOG Galaxy to operate in more secure manner when it comes to managing games on your PCs.

The rest of changes can be found in changelog.
Enjoy and happy playing.

Has anyone else been having slow download speeds?
I'm trying to back up my games by installing offline installers, and its taking way too long than it should.

GOG galaxy is transmitting at a rate of 1.8 MB/s
GOG Downloader is transmitting at a rate of 200 KB/s

Are the servers down or something?

For backups, if you can use some kind of Linux distro, LGOGdownloader is the best way.
With it, not only you can mass download all games related to your account (comprehensive bonus/extras and even some unrelated materials like custom DVD covers), but it can also check the state of all your installers, download newer versions when necessary and also list all the files that you have that are not anymore present on your account, like older installers.

I don't think that you'll receive support for GOG Downloader anymore.

Trying to install multiple DLC packs to Pillars of Eternity 2 is a time sink nightmare. I can only check one DLC item at a time in the GOG client. As soon as I check one the install process begins - checking local files (takes minutes), downloading (takes over a minute to download a 1 MB file before it moves on to the installation step). Installing, takes minutes for a tiny downloaded file. So far it's taking 5-10 minutes per minuscule DLC item.

Is it like this for every game?
