linuxkernel: So fine, I try to play older game Dark Star One. Installer has no clue what size, bunch of random numbers. Installer hangs "checking local files." Try to cancel but can't. Also can't shutdown client. Have to terminate all threads in tree.

Remove install manually and tried again. Now downloads at 0.2MB/s on a Fibre 200/200Mbit connection.

Not impressed to say the least.
In the case of DarkStar One Galaxy is probably trying to protect you... ;-)

bushwhacker2k: I have been playing Neverwinter Nights and recently my cloud saves have been going over my limit (200mb). I like being able to keep saves so I'd prefer to fix this instead of just not using cloud saves.

My problem is that I'm not certain what is being saved on the cloud and what isn't, which makes it hard to know what to get rid of.

Is there a way to see specifically what I'm saving to the cloud?
Yes, it is. The Galaxy cloud saves are stored under more->backup & goodies so that you will be able to back them up.

celroid: And support is useless, just how incompetent is the development team there?
avatar
kittehoverlord: They seem to be doing a good job. Perhaps you should upload your logs to the mantis website and open a bug report or add to an already existing one.
But shouldn't that have been the reply celroid should have gotten from support instead of "sorry we cannot figure out what went wrong"?

I see "Neverwinter Nights Diamond - Saves backup", and when I click it, it seems to act like it's downloading something with a size of .1 MB. It doesn't seem to do anything past that. How do I use this?
Did they add auto detect installed games to galaxy? I don't remember games being detected if they were installed before on galaxy. I used to have to scan it for them to appear.

If you open the list of downloads (click on the bar with the down arrow, where the download size and speed are displayed), then you can click the magnifying glass icon (it appears when you hover your mouse over a download) to open the folder.

The cloud saves backup is downloaded to the same location as other backups and goodies (offline installers, soundtracks, etc.), i.e. in the game's folder (under "!Downloads") or the folder set in settings (Downloads -> Other downloads folder).

The size being displayed as 0.1 MB is a known issue.

I don't think so. I don't know anything about the situation other than celroid's post and the image provided shows them doing a good job. If anyone is incompetent, it is celroid for taking his issue to the wrong place for a solution. I am no ``developer'' and even I know how to file a bug report. Hope the helps.

I did not say that they are incompetent and I never meant to do so since I recently had some pretty good conversations with support, especially with Genoan. He was really helpful in my cases. However - every support (not limited to GOG) should be able to tell people who simply went to the wrong place or did file a support ticket incomplete how to do it right. If you try to contact any support desk and you used the wrong number or did not give enough information every support worker will redirect you instead of just saying that he cannot help. That's support 101. "Dear xxx for this specific question we would ask you to fill out a bug support ticket using the url xxx (please include also the requested files) or contact the responsible support under xxxx - we are sure they can assist you further in your request". Should not be too difficult.

They did indeed. I noticed this a while ago. IN most cases Galaxy will detevt every new installed game automatically.

You are still calling them incompetent when they aren't, you are just using different words than celrod. They did offer a solution. I saw nothing but a resolution to a problem in the image celrod shared. They did a good job.

celrod felt entitled to more than they gave him ( which was a work around to whatever issue celrod was having and a promise to continue to work on it and get back to celrod if anything changed) , and came here of all places to moan about it.

celrod went to the wrong place and was STILL given, probably the only one available, a solution to their issue. That is all I am saying.

Fairfox: o yah! just loaded galaxee first tiem in an ageeeEee an' imma greeted by some uuuh weirdo pixel-y (in a legit. breja-bad-wai) icon?! i mean it aint on purpose 'coz it symbolizes 'retro' or whatevs 'coz it looks borked 'n' flatout wrong
(unless it fits perfect lee...)
Even "retro" would look better. This isn't even Pixelart - it's pixel crap ;)
Erm what the hell is up with downloads getting stuck? I got a download stuck at like 95%, been that way for a few hours now. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

EDIT: Damn Galaxy is using almost 900MB of RAM currently too.

So I paused the download last night that wasn't working (I was trying to install Mark of the Ninja) and went to bed. When I woke up this morning I tried it again. Galaxy froze and I had to kill it. Now I restarted Galaxy and it is downloading "something", I say something but the game is being reported as 100% downloaded but something is still downloading. So I have no idea if / or when Galaxy will ever stop while burning possible data that I don't have (bandwidth limit).

Whatever you guys did to the download mechanic, and it appears you did something because it doesn't perform exactly like it was.... isn't working out to well.

I never thought I would say this, but I'm really close to not using it for now. There is just no excuse for these issues on a release version. This would be completely acceptable on a alpha or beta build but this is from lack of proper testing. And beyond that when we report these issues they a lot of times take months to get fixed, if they get fixed at all because you are using a bug report system that you can't effectively manage and respond too.

Right now let's see I have...

- Downloads getting stuck.
- Galaxy freezing and / or crashing.
- RAM usage going through the roof when the above happens.
- Downloads that are still downloading even though they report as 100% complete.
- Icons that go missing after every restart.
- Galaxy has slight render lag whenever I start it, taking a few seconds to fully render.
- Countless other issues that I have reported that aren't fixed yet.

What I feel like is happening right now -> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

EDIT: Great so I abort the download of Mark of the Ninja, and now when I try to download it again I get a "installation failed" popup.

EDIT2: Finally, after another restart (in which again I had to click on a number of games for their icon to load) the game finally installed about 12 hours later.

EDIT3: For some reason the DLC didn't get installed, and when I install it it gets stuck at 95% and Galaxy continues to download huge amount of ghost data. What the hell is going on with Galaxy?

EDIT4: I just said heck with it and contacted support. I can't get it to download the DLC at all. Support ID #232452 if anyone from GOG is actually reading this.

That's because Galaxy never left Beta. :p

BKGaming: (...)
I am not the most competent to respond about the problem above, but I can say there are some optimizations in terms of downloading threads and CDNs used incoming. We have observed similar behavior (stuck finishing download) before.

Does anyone reading here have similar issues like BKGaming?
