I've just submitted a false positive report to Avast, restored the file and flagged the folder as an exception. For now, all is well in my Galaxy! :)

EDIT. Once the GalaxyUpdate file was restored, the application updated and the exe to run the program was quarantined! Again, I've reported it as a false positive and added the 'Program Files (X86)\GalaxyClient' folder to my exceptions list. I also had to manually create a desktop shortcut.

FYI the previous folder I added to exceptions was 'ProgramData\GOG.com'

The Avast/AVG malware alert is a false positive, most probably due to the change of the certificate used to sign the GOG Galaxy executable files.

We're contacting the anti virus software providers to fix this issues globally, but in the mean time you can manually allow GOG Galaxy to run.

There should be a download of the game without Galaxy, don't remember where. It's sort of hidden.
I have no anti virus program and gog starts like 5-6 minutes after clicking on it. Something is odd. After clicking on it only the processes GalaxyClientService.exe and GalaxyUpdater.exe are running. After a while GalaxyClientService disappears and even a while later gog finally starts. Starting having the problems since today with the update.

Whenever you are using GOG downloader (like me) you will always get the classic installer. So it's surprising that avast has a problem here.

Maverick89: Gog galaxy error essential components missing.
Nothings works, always this error after last update.
Check the quarantine section of your AV scanner. It could be that it blocked access to important Galaxy files.

Hi all,

Both Avast and AVG updated their virus database and marked GOG Galaxy as harmless. This should prevent future issues. If you already had Avast / AVG quarantine one of your Galaxy files, you might need to repair the installation. Here are detailed instructions for doing this: https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004238733

Hm. There was a change related to that in the current release. Could you create an issue on mantis.gog.com, and attach all your logs from C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs ? Thanks!

Sorry read this right now and I fixed it before by uninstalling GOG Galaxy + deleting all folders witch the uninstaller didn't delete and then it worked. :)
GOG Galaxy is working for me with windows defender, it's just taking 10 minutes to start.

This install of Galaxy is only a week old as it totally stopped working last week and I had to re-install it into a new directory.
Hi there,

I really need tabs in GOG Galaxy app to make it similar to web browser. I used to open lot of windows in my website browser, wheel click on every game that im interested in, then read it later, discard or add to my shopping cart.

I think it should be great to add this feature to GOG Galaxy app. It should make making decisions easier and more comfortable/user friendly.

Thanks.
Although the thumbnail issue has been minimized (I can actually re-enable thumbs by clicking on its' spot; on-line that is!) it is still there especially when launching it offline, so I'm wondering if it's a cache issue when it's not directly connected on-line...

I would love to see an "off-line switch" so both modes are clearly defined!
Very irritated that In Development games now have mandatory Galaxy if you want to use the devs' alternate builds.

Incredibly optional of you, GOG.
Well,i have the problem that occasional Galaxy seems to hang in the update process and wont start again.
Any idea why is that ?
