Crosmando: Wait a second, actual real people are playing the GOG version of MGS2, instead of the HD collection version? I feel sorry for you.
avatar
timppu: Wait, what? Are you playing the game on consoles? CONSOLES?!? COOOOOOOONSOLEEEEES!!!!!!!!

What are you, some kind of sick console peasant?
I do keep a PS3 around to play blurays and MGS HD.

tfishell: always appreciate GOG adding value to their releases.
That was gogs original selling point.

Dreaganos: VirusTotal reports
2 of 80 scanner found something these are "Yandex Safebrowsing" and "zvelo".
Yeah ok whatever...
Only a handful of virustotals scans picked up the pinnacle profiler malware when it first appeared.

Hmm What version most actual?
For some old games it possible to use recent GOG wrapper, but some games crashed. Unfortunatly. And this seems not a bug, itbshould be like that.

I guess most recent version is from 18 WoS Across America release

It really is the wrapper gog.com uses for DirectX is the very best. That is all I have to say.

It was a false positive, right? Plus, virus total compares various antiviruses on the market. Not sure what point you'd actually be trying to make here.

Games are supposed to crash?

I guess some releases of GOG DX/DirectDraw wrapper are game specific. Or someting from games side. Some games allow use this wrapper, some are crashed. I didnt test too much. Each GOG DX should be tested separetly. From some one it can be less game specific.

Btw, i once have troubles with narghoul DdrawCompatTool ddraw.dll for Hogs of War. On Win7 x32 Sp1 on Intel video. Since this game work great on win7 im skip it. On Win8 x64 and radeon his ddraw file are help as it should be.

So some 3rd party wrappers/wrappers forks/test builds on some machines for some games can cause CTD. dege Voodoo didnt solve problems for Hogs of War but didnt crahed game (HoW have minor glithces in menu with overlay that haplened on Win7 as well)

As i remebmer GOG wrapper crash HoW too. Also Disciples 2 version crash Disciples 1 game. But both example games can be reason themself.

The point is that it had proper malware and only a handful of the results on virustotal pointed that out. The point is very clear.

Nobody ever said that virustotal scans would guarantee you a malware free system but it is extremely unlikely that a file is infected if it was clean on virustotals. The fact that there might still be A TINY MINORITY of virusses not recognized by all those scanners used on virustotals does not change this fact at all.

and people who shout false positive immediately should remember that even mundane malware can slip through unless it draws enough attention to get properly checked.

False positive with a very high probability might be better but still it is all about chances.

This is no surprise, however the person to actually bring up virus total suggested it was a false postiive, and everyone else simply says it's not or reacted as if they didn't say false positive? I'm till leaning towards the idea of it being false positive because no evidence has been presented. Not that it matters, because i don't use it, anyway, but... still... Google also suggests false positive....

But, hey, FunWebProducts (Smiley Central and Cursor Mania and Zwinky and all the others) more or less admitted they would keylog you and you weren't responsible for what happened to this keylogged data if their employees ran with it.
If GOG was smart they would advertise what old games they update with wrappers and stuff to work better. It's the primary advantage over Steam and other platforms.

If the GOG wrapper ends up released with the old games when said games appear on Steam (since often GOG versions of old games end up on Steam, like Square Enix's old releases, the Star Wars games, Activision's old games, etc.), perhaps GOG thinks most people will tend to end up waiting for a Steam release, which is why GOG push the DRM-free aspect of their products (or Galaxy 2 as the "true" "all my games in one place" client).

But in general I agree it's a good idea, especially since it seems like most PC gamers (the masses not already here) might never care much about DRM-free (unless something really bad happens to the internet) and there may not be much more audience to be gained in that area.
