Stiffkittin: *snip* As another user suggested, this may be a lack of imagination on your part.
*snip* I'd argue that you are the one who lacks imagination if you can't see how longer cooldowns will lead to games lingering longer on the list, making the 'Starred' category redundant when it comes to game availability, no matter which timezone you live in.
Maybe you weren't around two years ago, the last time there were massive donations to the CG. The subject of longer cooldowns came up back then too, but ultimately everything was decided to be kept as it was, and, given time, the issue solved itself, there were games left over every month. The thing is, you can't use results from just half a month to measure how things will turn out long term.
Sure, there are more users of the CG these days, at least that's what I keep hearing, I haven't actually seen any numbers, but I doubt there are twice as many as it were back then. What has doubled now, though, is the cooldown.
You see, there aren't an infinite number of CG users, it will get saturated. When you start seeing a long list of people on cooldown there will be even more games left over every month this time around, and no need to random roll for anything.
Another thing that's different these days is that there are also a whole lot more games available. There's a myriad of Amazon games being donated every month. I know some like to think that the Amazon games are worth less, but I reject that notion. With the exception of one, all games I asked for from the CG last year were Amazon games, and most of them while they were still non-daggered. I still see plenty of others requesting non-daggered Amazon games, too.
