There are creatures, possibly from another dimension, that sometimes end up in our dimension. The things these creatures see are so fantastic, by their standards, that they believe they're dreaming. They're mischievous and like playing games with the denizens of their "dreams", often dangerous games. They can't be seen or felt by ordinary people unless the creature, like a poltergeist, plays one of it's games or tricks on them.

A few people have the gift to sense these creatures and even communicate with them, though it can be frustrating because they're treated like dreams (non-entities). Fewer still, have the ability to manipulate and even cause harm to these creatures - they are then deemed "Dream Monsters" or similar by the creatures.

So, if something strange seems to be happening - you look away and look back and something seems different or out of place (maybe something isn't where it was a second ago) - you just may have attracted the attention of one of these creatures...
