There’s nothing like a good old virtual pounding from time to time. That's why we are more than happy to welcome two exceptional fighting games, Mortal Kombat 4 and The friends of Ringo Ishikawa, on our DRM-free ring.

Mortal Kombat 4
It was the year 1997 and all game magazines were booming - Mortal Kombat goes 3D! The series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias already had cult status, but everybody was curious if it would survive such a revolution. Abandoning the traditional digitalized 2D graphics known from the previous Mortal Kombat games indeed seemed risky. Eventually, it took Tobias and Boon three years of hard work to create Mortal Kombat 4.

The final result was warmly welcomed by the fans, who liked the turn into the more dark, bloody direction of the Mortal Kombat franchise. For example, creators focused on the brutal Fatality endings to the fight, excluding humoresque elements like Friendship or Babality. Popular characters, like Johnny Cage, Raiden, and Goro, returned after some time of absence, while new fighters - Quan Chi, Shinnok or Tanya - quickly garnered many fans.

Just like its predecessors, Mortal Kombat 4 remains extremely fun to play even after many years since its release. Thanks to GOG.COM you can enjoy this game and its sheer dynamic playability once again.

The friends of Ringo Ishikawa
Remember that magic sound made by the coin inserted into the old arcade machine? Among many cult arcade games, side-scrolling fighting titles were very prominent. The friends of Ringo Ishikawa from yeo is such a game, yet combined with an open world and an engaging coming-of-age story. The main character of this title, a high school gang leader Ringo Ishikawa, has but one goal - to live through his last autumn before graduation.

With best friends by his side, he travels through the city and school grounds engaging in a brutal fight from time to time. As its creator describes it, The friends of Ringo Ishikawa is an existential open world beat ‘em up game with some school sim elements. It gives you quite a lot of freedom in exploring the town which undergoes the day-night cycle and has a lot of NPCs.

Apart from the game's story, elements like the hand-to-hand combat or mini-games (e.g. ping-pong and video-poker) will keep you immersed in The friends of Ringo Ishikawa for long!

As you can see, with two mentioned above releases we are not pulling any punches. It’s up to you to choose your favorite contestant or sidekick and pulverize all enemies standing in your way into smoking dust!

But one thing worries me: I hope to wait for MK: Komplete Edition, we will have NOT SO LONG.

P.S. And it would be nice to see MK Trilogy.

Nergal01: Yes, the release runs via nGlide, and it does so very well, i.e. it's just at the right speed and framerate.
cool, thanks for the info.

funny coincidence, A(SS)VGN is releasing a video on YT tomorrow about Mortal Kombat 1 ports -
https://www.youtube.com/post/UgyFlPrl6qc8QQH33BZ4AaABCQ .
I assume he shits all over the DOS version so no chance GOG sponsored that vid. :P

I hope that GOG releases "MK Trilogy" next, then all the classic MK games are complete :-)

_ChaosFox_: Trilogy's an interesting conundrum, and quite honestly, I think nostalgia doesn't quite live up to the reality. The PSX and Saturn versions were both a metric ton better than the horrendous PC ports, but in its own right, it's a terribly unbalanced game.

The DOS version ran at a greatly diminished resolution for some reason, was rather juddery and had countless control issues (not counting the usual problems of DOS gamepads seldom supporting more than four buttons in a game that relies on having six).

The Windows version had problems on even hardware of the time (refusing to run on Windows XP properly despite releasing just four years prior to it), but there are two unofficial patches floating around. CubanRaul (who did a bang-up job getting Blood Omen to run properly on modern PCs) is the author of one of the patches/installers.
Never mind? I want Trilogy, i am going to PAY for buying it, wishlist votes are more than enough, lotsa people get it. Unblalanced or not, this isn't an MMO. And as certainly as all hell, it isn't niche! One of the modern Mortal Kombats even, drew inspiration and used stuff from Trilogy, i believe (one of those titles at Steam mentioned something regarding).

I missed it back in the day, buying it retail, legit. Woud absolutely love a GOG entry. As well as many others. 1/2/3 standalones, don't have all the stuff Trilogy brings... It isn't a generic, mindless amalgamation of those games, it adds its own stuff, even! And the roster of playable characters, is one of the largest, in known Beat Em Ups, even by modern standards!

This.

But anyway, MK4 being on GOG certainly made my day :P.
Integrated graphics cards are not supported for mk4
Oh really does that mean i shouldn't buy it and try it since still using win xp and an integrated graphic chip nvidia geforce 6150.
I am intersted in testing this if it works but i noticed only one game that didn't work with iintegrated ones like giants citizen kabuto.
oh and i wonder can it have unlimited continues and the game a.i. doesn't cheat like in mk 1 and mk2
On flatout 2 it says the same but it works.

I mean, with the new refund policy you could test it risk-free I think...

I'm playing it right now on an Intel HD Graphics 630 chip without issues. It's using nGlide anyway, so it should be compatible even with a toaster (as long as the toaster supports DirectX 9).
Mortal Kombat 4.

This is first truly great release on GOG this year.

...Now, bring us Mortal Kombat Trilogy, please. Collection's need to be finished.
YES!!!! Thrilled to see Mortal Kombat 4 here finally!!!!! I remember having the old disc from back in the day; was always wanting it here. Let's also hope it allows other MK games to make it here.
Fighting and racing games are ALWAYS welcomed. Thanks gog and everyone involved!!!
Does this version of Mortal Kombat 4 include the additions that were in MK Gold? (6 additional fighters and additional stages) or is it just a straight port of MK4?
I only miss one thing: In the original PC version of MK4, when the game started, there was the option menu displaying a picture of Scorpian in the living forest and you could hear the laugh of the announcer. That's not in the GOG version. Other than that, the GOG version is flawless (Flawless Victory).
Maybe GOG could look into this? :-P

Straight port, 1998 pc release.

MK Gold is a Dreamcast exclusive. Too bad ;(
