Hum, just to say that one of my fellow Belgian comrade is currently making Genesia Legacy, a kind of remake of the original Genesia which was a classic turn-based strategy game back in the Amiga days.

All details here:

We are a country full of many unknown resources ;) Just on this site, apart from the Larian stuff, we also have Outcast by Frank Sauer & Co:
http://www.gog.com/game/outcast

Closer to now, Mayan Death Robots will be out on Steam this summer:

While Sunset (kickstarted for 60.000$) should be also out during the same period:

Tomorrow, I'll post a bit of history on a worldwide known Belgian company.... ;)

Otherwise, I was rethinking about the project recently and Thomas wrote a detailed blog post about the hurdles of the development of this "enhanced" version:

Legend has it there's a 6'4" bread seller in Brussels who actually comes from a land down under.
I hear he makes great Vegemite sandwiches.

Sorry, the second release spears to be for an iPad, that immediately screams casual, micro transaction rubbish. Personally if he wants to sell it as a game, I wouldn't include it as it throws big red flags to me.

You seem to be making the strange implication that there's something wrong with casual games.
Microtransactions, ok, yeah, that's lousy.
But what's so bad about casual?

??????????????????????????????? o_O

Are you drunk?????

Did you even play the original????

It's really not for casuals and having seen one of his twitch dev streams, I can tell you the implemented mechanics of the upcoming game will need a FAQ or a Wiki page :o)

If there's one guy who does it for passion first, it's really him and as a bonus, I'm linking to you a 2013 interview for a retro website (in French):
http://www.ordiretro.fr/2013/08/09/interview-de-thomas-zighem-auteur-de-genesia-et-genesia-heritage/

I'm doing you a quick&dirty translation of this particular paragraph:

"Genesia is not an easy game. Contrary to the gameplay totally pre-made of games of the same type, where it holds your hand and gives you directions every 2 minutes, here there's no tutorial which makes you do this or that to advance further. Personnaly, I don't see any interest to play a game which tells you to click here, there, then buid 2 farms, and cut 30 planks of wood to win. Where is the challenge? Where is the thinking and strategy in all that? The worst are those nowadays games where you must put your hand in your wallet with real money and micro-transactions to bo buy stuff in the game! We are in a world where you can buy your virtual 30 planks of wood for Euros! Yes sir! We live in this world and as a developer, I find that ridiculous"

Oh well, at least, you gave me one more opportunity to bump the thread ^o^

No, there's nothing strange about it. From what I see of them, they are shallow attempts to extract money for toys. To be fair though, I stay well away from it, so my knowledge is confined to the train loads of brain-deads joinng colored shapes, or the partners mum spending hours tapping pigs and sheep. That is what "iPad" represents to me, and that is why it raises red flags when something has that attached to it.

You can also take the words of the most uncompromising French website review on the 2011 iPad version:

TLDR: for hardcore retro gamers

Oh, I remember playing Genesia long ago on the PC. It is true you had to go through the documentation in order to play it. I hope this version will honour its heritage.

You should be named the GOG Forum reporter, with all the nice links you share in here. ;-)

The Room was a nice game. Strata's a good one, too. Broken Sword even got a port. It's the developer, not the medium through which the game is presented.
