It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Good, deprive these necromancers of all their powers! But 2014 is a bit too much IMHO.

Cyraxpt: I don't get it, don't we at least deserve an upgrade to the forums? This is not a solution, it's like having an old car full of problems and your solution for it is to buy new tires instead of getting a new car.
Indeed, but I guess we should be thankful they took notice of the forum for once and in typical fashion chose the least effective and problematic way to slightly "improve" it. Archiving all the old threads using posts made in 2015 as the cut-off probably requires the minimum effort on their part, which is inline with their previous stance on the forum not being a priority at all when it comes to improving even basic features.

I'm guessing that since we're having 500's errors all over the place with the galaxy beta then they're predicting that it will get worse when TW3 releases, not sure how closing threads without any activity before 2015 will help...

Ciris: As for a separate Galaxy sub-forum - as far as I understand it, the only "general discussion" style things are to be for various languages (and for the English-language archive). If a Galaxy sub-forum were to be created, it would need all language versions added as well, and duplicate posts would appear anyway.
So an archive is needed because the general forum is too big... But we can't have a seperate forum for galaxy which would help the problem because at the moment general is spammed with galaxy and friend threads.
Also there are seperate forums for every game, but we can't have a seperate one for galaxy? That does not make sense to me. And I also don't see the need why there would need to be a galaxy forum for every language... it is not like all the game forums are duplicated for every language.
*officially confused*

And I also don't see why a forum for Wticher 3 had not been implemented some weeks ago when the release was drawing nearer.

Will the archive also include those threads that are not accessible anymore? Currently the General Discussion only reaches back into March 2009 and anything older is not present anymore so it would be kinda cool if it got archived as well.

Perhaps we should ask for a separate forum for the website instead. Perhaps they would like that better.

Let me see if I got this right - there can't be a Galaxy forum, because that would require to create one for all languages. OK...

*goes to "General Discussion" main page*
*spots "STICKY: GOG GALAXY BETA" thread*

*goes to "Allgemeine Diskussion" main page*
*finds no "STICKY: GOG GALAXY BETA" thread"

*goes to "Discussions Générales" main page*
*finds no "STICKY: GOG GALAXY BETA" thread"

Gotcha.

+1, that's even a better idea!

moonshineshadow: - making a galaxy forum
I'm sorry but that'll never happen. It's quite obvious GOG wants to flaunt it from here to eternity in an attempt to sway the masses.

Eventually...

Ciris: What’s hiding under “work better”? As I understand it...
Dear Ciris, I don't envy you the task of having to inform us of all these changes so please understand that I mean absolutely no offence when I say I would much prefer to hear it straight from the horse's mouth rather than be presented with your understanding of it.

Ciris: ... and it will be easier to keep track of what’s going on.
How?! Those threads are not exactly cluttering the front page (or they weren't prior to your posting about the decision).

zeffyr: [...] moving posts from 2014 into 'archive' seems too radical.

VanishedOne: I suppose if the staff don't budge we could all go through our bookmarks and bump everything that looks still useful and serviceable. It would make a mess of the forum for a while, but it would save making continuation threads later.
I fully agree with you. Since the process won't take more than a few days I personally don't mind people bumping all their favourite threads to avoid premature burial.

First they came for my PMs and I did not speak out.
Then they came for my forum messages and I did not speak out.

Then they came for my DRM-free installers and there was no way left for me to speak out...

Ciris: As for moving Witcher 3 threads manually - we don't have moderators, and sadly, we don't have bored staff members to do that (although I wish we did!).
Nevertheless, what you intend to do over the weekend is closing threads...

avatar
Ciris: And as for the start of the year being a too early cutoff line for discussions, if you stopped a forum conversation for almost half a year, it seems to me like it's likely a new thread would form instead of continuing that old one :)
Spoken like a true moderator. ;)

Nirth: Archieves are unecessary and may mess things up, instead create sub-forums!
Seconded!

Seriously, I have never seen such a messed up forum on the whole internet. One big pile of everything, squeezed into 'General Discussions'. Plus a defective search function to top it all off. Let me take the opportunity to promote my wishlist entry.

And I also agree with what has been said about the ridiculously short time span. At least make it 2014.

Though of course, not always the case. People are a silly bunch after all and will necro all sorts of things for the strangest reasons. A more interesting thought I've had however, is how does it effect people that have favorite old threads? I have a decent chunk from 2010 to 2012 that I've saved for viewing. And what of people who will read this and decide to go and start throwing new posts into everything so it sticks in this forum, all for the lawls?

Edit: Seems I was a little slow to catch but someone literally did that a half hour ago on an old GOG contest. So, this I continue to ponder to you noble blues.

That's probably rather easy to do because the threads are time stamped to when they were last posted in... I imagine they have a system in place to automatically do this. I don't imagine they will manually close threads, that is a lot.
