I've heard that the Castlevania games are good, and I especially love story-rich games. Has anyone played Castlevania: Lament of Innocence? I can get the PS2 game for about $5, but I don't want to spend money on a game I won't enjoy ^_~ Input?
Everyone hated it, but I loved Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. Level design was flat and plain, especially in the latter, but it was still a lot of fun and had some great atmosphere, characters, music, cutscenes, voice acting, and secrets. As an introduction to Castlevania? I'm not sure, but it's certainly not the worst. You play as a Belmont, in the earliest chapter in the story chronologically, even before Dracula has come to be, and there's lots of castle exploring and whipping.
I'd say go for it. If you hate it, don't give up on the series, since most people hate all 3D Castlevania games anyway. You can always return it or sell it or something. The question of whether it's worth investing time into, I would adamantly say yes. I enjoyed the hell out of that game.
