Hawk52: Basically that. All that DLC adds is some missions against human enemies and a person for the team.

Not even getting into that X-Com is an organization to fight aliens not humans (rage~!), it's a really pointless DLC add-on trying to mine gamers.

Not to mention having to pay 4.99 extra to be able to recolor your soldiers. Unless you preordered, of course.

Aningan: What are you talking about? There are no missions against human enemies.

And in about 100 hours of gameplay I never once got the feeling that the game was cheating. So again, what are you talking about more exactly?
It appears I was wrong about the DLC

As for the AI cheating, you must have incredible luck. Or, you know, ignore the extra mandatory AI moves when you discover aliens, or the habit of maps to give you zero cover aside from explosive items such as cars, or aliens hitting every attack they do round after round while you miss 90% shots or how about aliens coming out of the dark knowing exactly where your guys are and point blanking them before you can do anything? How about the fact that if you lose *one mission*, the entire game is pretty much ruined after a certain point? Or how panic increases geographically wide instead of mission based, meaning panic spirals out of control if you screw up?

I'm in the minority for my hate of the game, but I'm not in the minority for thinking it's a cheating POS.

Add one more to the minority. I think I'm going to start a thread for games that most people love and I can't stand.

I have more issues with X-Com then just the AI. The presentation is meh, the constant unending talking heads are annoying as heck, the game punishing you for using explosives (one of the best tactics in all the X-Com games) is both annoying and frustrating, god help me if I ever have to listen to an escort civilian screaming every friggin turn again, the jingoistic "America Fuck Yeah!" voice over work was so bad I had to turn it off to get any enjoyment out of combat, and the game is completely linear. You gotta get Item A to progress to Item B to get Item C, etc, etc.

Personally, I think a ton of people gave it a pass because it was a big release TBS game. While, you know, completely ignoring other new games in the genre as good if not better.
As for the AI cheating, you must have incredible luck.

I distinctly remember missing with 98% chance to hit and cursing a lot. I would not say I have incredible luck, it's just that most times I'm prepared for such eventualities (or at least try to be).

Or, you know, ignore the extra mandatory AI moves when you discover aliens,

That move is so neither you or them can get the drop on one another. Quite a few times you can make it work in your favor or even bypass it (Battle scanner + Rocket Launcher can get you some nice results)

or the habit of maps to give you zero cover aside from explosive items such as cars,

Most (not all) such maps will give you better cover if you're patient and don't approach directly the aliens, but make a detour on the side of the map for a different approach.

or aliens hitting every attack they do round after round while you miss 90% shots

That was never my impression. Position you men better, flank, suppression, use explosives to destroy cover or just lower the difficulty to have aliens with bad aim.

or how about aliens coming out of the dark knowing exactly where your guys are and point blanking them before you can do anything?

The only aliens that can shoot you are those you that you already triggered. New aliens will always move to cover and only fire on the next turn. And if you already triggered them then you can do something. Leave you people in overwatch, good cover, use smoke if you have it, hunker down if you're in a bad spot or retreat to better positions.

How about the fact that if you lose *one mission*, the entire game is pretty much ruined after a certain point?

Not unless you go with the same team and only have rookies at the base. If you keep a balanced team and keep leveling up your rookies you will always have a team that can handle future missions. Also, you can retreat your soldier and abandon mission, saving at least some of them.

Or how panic increases geographically wide instead of mission based, meaning panic spirals out of control if you screw up?

After a few (well positioned) satellites panic levels are manageable. Besides, what do you want? The game to reward you for screwing up. You can lose the game. It's why I like it. It actually challenging. At least on higher levels of difficulty. On Easy I don't think you can lose unless fuck up intentionally and repeatedly.

I'm in the minority for my hate of the game, but I'm not in the minority for thinking it's a cheating POS.

Granted, I only visit the XCOM forums rarely but it's a first for me to hear that the game is cheating. The one complaint I hear often (and agree with) is that the first couple of months are too random on the strategic level. After those couple of months the game is a cakewalk.

The game has a lot of faults I can agree with but I don't agree that it is cheating.

Witcher13: To buy AP is a hard decision, because good story meets bad unpolished execution and there are some better alternatives (Deus Ex 3 or maybe Binary Domain). I woud give it a shot if there would have been at least one god fanpatch or mod.
It's definitely rough around the edges but I wouldn't say it's buggy or anything like that.
Alpha Protocol is better than Binary Domain IMO

Binary Domain is fun and a decent game, but IMO it doesn't even come close to Alpha Protocol. If you liked BD, then do yourself a favor and grab AP. For 3 bucks it's almost like they're paying you to play it. Seriously, it's got some flaws, but the 'bugs' and 'issues' you read about are way overblown from what I could see in my playthroughs of AP.

Rincewind81: Is this release multilanguage or english only?
Don't know about the GG version, but in general, Alpha Protocol never got a German dub. Only the text was translated.

Uh, Alpha Protocol is originally in English, dub and all. Don't you mean non-Engish dub?

Derp. What I meant to say is: the game never got a German dub. :X

There exist german subtitles in general... But not on GGate. (Gibts zwar aber nicht bei GG)

hermitgames did the arcade shooter Leave Home (and few others), the game Home is something completely different. ;)

QRTH-PHYL is DRM-free, neither Steam nor Desura key this time and the bonus doesn't seem very tempting. The game concept seems interesting, but might be more for arcade fans.
