YES, i beat you bansama!

Hey, thanks for the tip. I didn't know about that site.
Gaming deals website for Australians:
Economical Gamer
PALGN (not exclusively gaming deals website, but they have weekly bargain news)
And now...for digital distribution deals:
Direct2Drive: Braid $5 off, DRM-free; Dawn of War 2 50% off
Gamersgate: The Guild games 40% off; Bioshock 60% off; Juiced 2 50% off; Hearts of Iron II Complete 60% off
Dawn of War II half-off. HALF-OFF!? Is this game any good? My finger's on the Buy button...
What's it like, compared to other RTSs? More Starcraft or C&C?

It's supposed to be very good. Dont know how to compare to either series, but I know there's no real base building, and it borders on action and RTS. Keep in mind there are limited installs through GfWL -- last I checked anyway.

Put your finger on the "download demo" button and find out.
I definitely think its worth it, especially a that price, only better price I've seen is the price I paid (competition wins are awesome!)
It's nothing much like starcraft, there's no base building (or very limited in MP) or tedious resource gathering (closest is capturing strategic points), its closer to a squad level game rather than an army level one but with a heavier focus on tactics. In order to succeed most effectively, you have to tell your troops to take cover, what directions to face (mostly in the case of heavy weapons becuse they take a while to move) and use the right tool for the right job. Its a lot more than drag select units and click on the thing you want to die. In single player you also have a limited selection of units and no building more in mission, you select your forces beforehand and use them as best you can
You could think of it as a somewhat action type of squad strategy game, kind of like a realtime version of xcom or the older warhammer 40K game chaos gate (or squad command on the DS/psp if you've seen them)
GFWL has never given me an issue with the game, in fact I don't think it was installed until after the game was, not sure how it could limit the installs

It also, I believe, requires Steam.

I think that's the only kind of 'strategy' game I like cause I suck at everything else so far. :)
Pretty sure it installs when the game does, as with other GfWL titles (as has been my experience). See bottom of this page for evidence on DoW II install limits.

It does, but I didn't mention it as he was going to buy it from Steam anyway.

You can mostly get away with that when playing on easy, you'll have an easier time if you move your troops to cover and set them up right though. Its defrinitely worth getting the demo of, if you like it then its an ideal time to buy
high rated

JudasIscariot: For those of us in Poland:
http://www.gram.pl/sk8_9griHu1_Legendy_RPG.html
Includes :
Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast
Baldur's Gate 2 and Throne of Bhaal
Planescape Torment
Both Icewind Dale games and the Heart of Winter Expansion
Lionheart:Legacy of the Crusader
59.99 PLN for all that.

That is a down right amazing deal. I wish there was something like it in the US, I'd have it ordered in less than a heart beat. Heck, if it was in the UK or some other English speaking country (So I was sure to get the English versions of the games) I'd pay to have it shipped over seas.

Since it relies on Steam, do you need any silly Games for Windows Live activation keys?

I think so, yes.

Oh well. If I like the demo, I'll probably get it anyway. I wish the product page mentioned it, since it technically is 3rd-party DRM.
EDIT: Finished the demo, and I think this is my favorite RTS ever (so far). Levelling up units, effective, Company of Heroes-style cover mechanics, and a personality I really, really like. I think I'll buy it.
