Well recently, the entire heavy Rain Demo.... i never knew a game could be like that....
But of all memory:
the Storyline and ending of Unreal 2
pretty much Mass Effect blew my mind
And the Ending Sequence of Shadows of Colossus
Oh and the end of God of War 2 Was the most bitchin thing in gaming history!
Older then that:
Wing Commander prophecy... i actually teared up and needed tissues at a few points.
The first time i played Unreal... i fell in love that instant with FPS games.
Oh and lastly, Kicking the eye out of the main boss in Duke 3D for a fieldgoal!
Playing RE5 I was like "wow, I just time traveled to 1997, I can''t move and shoot."
And playing the last Prince of Persia I was like "wow, how can a game suck so hard yet be so pretty?"
And playing the COH demo I was like "wow, this just rocked my socks off."
I'd also add the completion of Tex Murphy UKAM which made me really fall in love with the adventure genre...
DA:O - Running into the forth floor of the Tower of Ishal - Ogre (Wet Pants) - I am Dead.
Graphically this is the most recent one for me, from Uncharted 2. Watching the youtube it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but when I saw it on my hdtv with the lights off the blue torch/lighting looked amazing.

Whitecroc: One of my more recent "wow" experiences was the opening sequence of Mass Effect 2. That was just amazing.

Yeah I was just loading this thread to say the same thing
Also bump.

Undead necro troll? ;)
Seeing MechaHitler in Wolfenstein 3D, at the age of 5. I recognized him immediately, never gonna forget that moment.

Had this one as favourite and thought I'd bring it back from the dead. You know in case it gets archived and locked and all that?

drhoads: I could go on… but nothing has since totally blown me away that I could not even believe what I was playing.

Any experiences like that for anyone else here?
My list could probably create a novel to be honest, but I'll narrow it down to a select few. Like many others my age I started with the NES, Genesis, and SNES. To be honest, even to this day I feel like the late 80's, and 90's were the golden age of gaming no matter what system you were playing.

The one moment that I've ever truly been impressed graphically which has never been recaptured since was the first time I witnessed a television advertisement for Ecco the Dolphin. I was completely blown away with the vibrant colors, and how they melted together. All I could think was how beautiful.

From a story perspective, and perhaps even overall game play, I'd have to give props to Chrono Trigger. I don't want to give anything away for those who have never experienced the joy of playing this game, so I'll only say. That team really was the dream team.

I'd also like to point out my affinity for adventure games, as well as PC gaming in general started with Loom, and Monkey Island. My father had just purchased a 486 DX2-66 IIRC from a co-worker of his who had just upgraded to a newer model. Loom in particular elicited feelings similar to what I felt playing Ecco the Dolphin for the first time (beauty). Monkey Island's sense of adventure, and music were fantastic and are the two things about the game I fondly remember to this day.

Lastly, as far a overwhelming moments are concerned. The more recent title of Xenoblade Chronicles immense level size, and not just in vision, but explorable. I was blown away as I had been in the 80's and 90's.
The largest was when I stopped playing World of Warcraft and I thought about the sheer number of hours i has pumped into that game.
Had a wow moment in KotOR. Spoiler alert

[spoiler]

The moment when Darth Malak revealed that the player character is Darth Revan. I like to imagine it this way:

"Bastila never told you what happened to Darth Revan."

"She told me enough! She told me that he got killed."

"No. You are Darth Revan."

;)

BillyMaysFan59: spoiler
My roommate spoiled that spoiler for me after I was 2 hours into the game. He LOVED to do that. Worst roommate ever. (he also through another roommate through a window and purposefully installed a virus on his laptop on finals night to "teach him a lesson: always lock your laptop when you take a nap.")

Some of my moments:

- Metal Gear Solid stealth
- Thief stealth
- Multiplayer Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear
- Empire Earth's span through history
- Skyrim's graphics and gameplay (I'm a lover of Skyrim -- prob my favorite ES game)
- Oblivion's first oblivion gate event
- Irenicus' battle outside his dungeon
- Discussing Dragon Age Origins with a friend who was playing it simultaneously and we had such completely different experiences due to our choices (the same happened when 3 guys and I were talking about Skyrim and we all had radically different experiences)

Uhm, interesting....

Let me see...

- Phantasy Star Online, i remember being in the classroom with a gaming magazine showing my friend (funny note, he's still my friend and we still play together after 15 years) and we were amazed with the graphics, the player customization and that we could play online... When the time was released it didn't disappointed, the online was amazing but back then we had to use the famous 45k internet, the problem wasn't the connection, it was that one month that the phone bill appeared with something like 100€... Yeah... it was the last time that i played pso online (back then), lol.

- Deus Ex, the number 1 game on my top 10 list, it holds a special place in my heart because to this day still remains unmatched in terms of liberty given to the player, sure, there's DEHR or Dishonored but it's just not the same (or perhaps it's my nostalgia tricking me) but the maps were way bigger and had more decisions.

- Kotor twist, not gonna reveal it but those that played it knows what i'm talking about;

- Fahrenheit (or Indigo Prophecy for you americans), we all know that the second part of the game is... uhm... disappointing but i was amazed with the first part, it was awesome how your decisions could influence the outcome of the game.

- Chromehounds, sure, the singleplayer was a shitty tutorial but the online was one of the best experiences that i had, it was amazing to see that you could be part of this huge war and your name could appear as the heroes listed for the job they've done or those random events where you had to destroy this HUGE mech controlled by the AI... It really hurts my heart that i'll probably never play something amazing as this game (online) ever again. As a side story, i remember playing 3v3, my buddies were destroyed and i was the only one alive trying to destroy their base when one of the enemies shows up to defend (one was destroyed in the battle and the other was in route to our base), as i'm almost destroying their base i run out of ammo, it was just devastating, i was so close to destroying their base... but there was still hope, the enemy was dumb, he started shooting guided missels so i was dodging behind the base so that lead to the guy destroying his own base and us winning the game. Man, the memories...

- Not me playing but the Battlefield 4 presentation will be forever engraved in my memory, that part where the guy enters a building, goes up in the elevator and jumps down in time to see the massive building falling was just mind blowing... Nowadays is just a fade, lol.

I'm sure there's more but these are the ones that i remember for now...
