"Do not confuse Doom for some semi-ironic throwback to the big dumb shooters we all (think we) remember from the ‘90s. Do not assume that Doom’s fast, ferocious focus on brutality, bullets, and bone-snappping takedowns indicates some cheap rallying cry to the anti-CoD, ‘old school’-worshipping curmudgeons. Doom is not a gimmick. Doom is not a mindless tribute to a bygone era. Doom is an intricate, polished, and aggressively tuned-up machine, with intelligent and purposeful design underpinning every whirling mechanism and furious combustion."

*proceeds to talk about spacial awareness, health management, and monster variety*

So... you mean kind of like the "big dumb shooters" from the 90s? -_-

Maybe it's supposed to be ironic?
They got it this early? When was it releasing again?

I played the shooters of today (Crysis 3/Far Cry 2/Black Ops 3) and I like em.

I play shooters of the past (Doom/Quake/System Shock 2) and I like em.

I just play what is good to me.

Yeah, in the end, it's not a question of old school VS new school, it's a question of design. You can design games in a good or a bad way in either schools.

Good Lord. I know I've spouted a lot of excessive literary verbiage about games in the online reviews and articles that I've written in the past, but this is ridiculous. It's Doom for God's sake. At the end of the day the most important thing people will want to know is (a) will it be true to the original core design and gameplay principles that made the original games so memorable, and (b) how much will it be influenced (and some might even go so far as to say, "tainted") by the post-Halo, post-CODMW FPS landscape of today.

Otherwise, why bother with this game when we have Brutal Doom or Project Brutality?

I can't wait for all the "10/10, there has never been a game of this caliber before! This is the best story ever written, the best world ever created and the gameplay can only be described as revolutionary in every single way! Truly the Game of the Year if not Game of the Decade" classic Bethesda style reviews.

Edit: Although this review is pretty close to that classic Bethesda review style.

To be fair, from what I've seen the game DOES look pretty decent.

There are a lot of games that look pretty decent, but it's the gameplay that really matters in the end. EA's Battlefront is a great example of this.
You know, for the kids that are growing up today playing shit games all the time, I'm sure for them NuDoom will be great fun. For everyone else who values artistic merit or who can simply use critical thinking skills, it will suck balls. And that's all I have to say about that.

Truly. At the moment the only game my friends want to play is Evolve on PS4. It's fucking torture if you've grown up on PC FPS games. They love it so if I want to play with them I have no choice. Yeah they're younger than me and have grown up on consoles or mainly consoles with some PC games.
I can only stand so much so in a while I guess I'll be playing singleplayer exclusively. For the umptenth time. :/
Hm..we will see when its dine..and i certanly wont listen to gamesradar on that
What an absolutely horrible review. Could they find someone who had actually played the original Doom games, or at least someone who played FPS games that are more that 4-5 years old? I remember many heated discussions about how regenerating health in FPS games was dumbing down the genre. Now this kid is absolutely blown away by needing to gather health packs. Like it's some new, revolutionary feature that adds tons of strategy and complexity to the genre. Couple this with intricate level design and this little tyke is ready to pee himself. What? Doom has a maze of tunnels, secret passages and shortcuts? You mean it not just one big long corridor??! That's the most ingenious level design ever created!!

He also seems to be mesmerized by the idea of a secondary fire mode "replacing traditional iron-sights". Well junior, there was a time when secondary firing mode was a standard feature of the FPS genre. Personally, I never really understood the point of iron sights. Unless your playing a realistic military shooter or something similar, I feel that iron sights take away the much more enjoyable secondary fire. Even in games where it does make sense to use iron sights, it's something I almost never do unless the weapon has a scope.

Perhaps they should have given this review to someone who actually remembers playing old school FPS games instead of one who just thinks he remembers.
This comment made me laugh :
I like how you described the multiplayer as if its a new thing. It's been like that with the Quake competitive scene for 2 decades.

That's the thing that confuses me. They start the review being all "this is no stupid oldschool FPS for old people" then proceed to praise it for doing things that oldschool FPSs did well.

But takedowns come from modern shooters. This lobotomite can't even get basic shilling right.

Whenever i read a review like this I don't know if the author is saying "this game is actually shit guys, look how little effort i put into shilling for it" or if they really think I'm retarded enough to fall for this crap.
