JudasIscariot: You might be able to try and copy the files as root but I am not sure how to go about that myself :/

BKGaming: Yea I tried open the folder as root, doesn't seem to work. :/
edit: nevermind I can't read

I am not sure what's blocking you :/ Googling this is proving to be ineffective or my google-fu is weak :/

BKGaming: Figured it out, had to be in root on both the original and second hard-drive for it to copy. :)

vv221: Yep, and we will look into it tomorrow once you’ve a functional system again.
It might take some time, but you should have libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 *and* cinnamon by the end of the day. I’m used to take care of problems far worse than this one ;)
avatar
BKGaming: You are Judas wouldn't know of a easy way of just backing up or copying the recent Mint updates would you? Not a big deal if not, I'll just do it in the morning.
Ah nice :D

Glad to hear you got it sorted :)

As for the other question I am not sure how but vv221 might know :)

BKGaming: Thanks Judas for the help, I'll report back on libSDL2-2.0-0:i386 when I get Mint re-installed.
Please do let us know if it tries to install that Mint breaking library :)

JudasIscariot: Please do let us know if it tries to install that Mint breaking library :)
avatar
BKGaming: Okay so whenever I try to install libsdl2-2.0-0:i386, copied right from the game card I get this.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 : Depends: libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386 (>= 10.0.2) but it is not going to be installed or
libwayland-egl1:i386

And that is with the "-0".

In the terminal I'm putting "sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libasound2:i386 libasound2-data:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 libfreetype6:i386 libqtgui4:i386 libcurl3-gnutls:i386 libglew1.10:i386", copied right from M&B Warband game card.

Perhaps libsdl2-2.0:i386 is the one that does not require libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386 with the ".0"?
I am not sure what's going on but I know Crimsonland requires that same library and I had to install the libraries listed on the game card http://www.gog.com/game/crimsonland and that library did not call for libwayland on my Mint 17.1 machine O.o

I really have no clue what in the heck is going on so the only thing I can suggest is sending us a Support ticket about this so that we can investigate this further.

edit: I will note that I am running Mint 17.1 KDE and not Cinnamon and maaaaybe this is something related to Cinnamon only?

edit 2: you can try the following command, shouldn't break your system this time I promise :)

sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update

then

sudo apt-get upgrade

Well, I would say "install the other one" but I'd recommend holding off anything for now since I've indirectly broken your Linux install once :/

This is a bit beyond me so a Support ticket will have to do :)

BKGaming: I send one..

But I do remember I had the same issue with the Witcher 2... but I don't have Witcher 2 downloaded right now to install. But I remember a member of the community created a zip file with the required packages and I dropped that straight into the Witcher 2 directory. It was the only way I could get it to work on Mint 17 Cinnamon.

If that download is still up, I grab that package and drop into M&B.

BKGaming: Thanks I'll try that.

Shame, the files are not there anymore. But this is the exact same issue as Witcher 2 & Ganni1987 fixed it.

What gets me is why does that particular library cause so much trouble? I mean I installed it on my home system and I never saw it tell me I needed that libwayland library. I wonder if anyone else running Mint 17.1 Cinnamon experiences this.

BKGaming: I don't know but even if I type libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 in the software manager it won't let me install it because even it list that Cinnamon is removed along with a butch of other packages.
Can you take a screenshot of that? If you press PrintScreen you should get a Snapshot dialog box to open up :)

Hmmm not sure as I am also running a 64-bit KDE Mint 17.1 install.

Please add those to your Support ticket, if you can or just send a link or something. Again, I am not sure why it would remove Cinnamon of all things :O

What do you get when you paste

libwayland-egl1-mesa:i386

into the Search bar for your Software Manager?

I get that it will remove the libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 library from my system :/

Thanks for the help, and the report is now sent. Hopefully I'll hear something soon. :)
Great :) I'll be asking our resident Linux expert just WTH is going on with this library as this is rather unprecedented :/

Ganni1987: Judas can you please let your Linux packer to include the following files with the game (Warband)? Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bw5Xv02Yq2HrUmE5Ri1xcVI4WFE

By adding these libraries, the game runs straight out of the box without the need to install any packages (and possibly nuke the system.) I think it would really help less experienced users and saves a lot of time and problems. Since GOG is supporting Ubuntu and Mint mainly, this would be a good idea.

The only input the user has to do is to have the correct video card drivers installed, which I believe is something out of GOG's control.

Thanks :-)

avatar
BKGaming: Were you using the same proprietary nvidia divers on Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 64bit?
avatar
Ganni1987: No, the open source one.

I also ran the tests on Mint 17.1 MATE 64bit twice, one with the open source driver and one with the proprietary and only the proprietary one worked.

It's definitely not a Cinnamon/MATE/KDE issue.

Which version of fglrx are you using (amd drivers)?
Please write a Support ticket about these kind of things so this all gets collected in one place, thanks! :)
avatar
Ganni1987: You don't even need to install the OS to reproduce this issue, just by loading into the Mint live desktop and try to install libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 it will ask you to install additional wayland:i386 packages, which in turn if you do, it nukes the OS.

The problem stands here: The 64bit version of these packages already comes preinstalled with Mint 17.1 so when you install the i386 (32bit) version it removes the 64bit ones and thus breaking the distro.

TBH I'm not sure why the Mint team didn't make these installable side by side instead of overlapping.

If you really want/need them side by side you'll have to place the 32bit library manually, how to do it:

- Download the package manually by going to www.pkgs.org

- Type in the search box the name of the library, for example "libwayland-client"

- Since Mint is based on Ubuntu 14.04, expand that section and download: libwayland-client0_1.4.0-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

- Once download the deb package, open it with Archive Manager and go like this: usr > lib > i386-linux-gnu > and you'll see 2 files.

- As root, extract them manually in your "/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu" and change the files ownership to "root"

- You now have both 32bit and 64bit libraries of wayland without breaking the system.

I wouldn't suggest using this method for every library you install but in certain cases it's a good workaround. The mini patches I create are done in a similar fashion, but placed in the games folders instead.

Also, if you make use of this method I would strongly suggest to document which files you placed manually. :D

EDIT: Uploaded screenshot
avatar
BKGaming: Glad to have it confirmed by someone else, and I glad there is a workaround but it should not be needed since GOG officially supports Mint. GOG needs to solve this.

Thanks.

BKGaming: Judas can you please talk to someone, support doesn't seem to be getting us anywhere and this is a significant issue. The support person I was emailed by was someone named Genoan. Thanks.

BKGaming: I honestly don't understand how they can't reproduce this, unless there doing it on a 32bit version...
Please follow up on that Support ticket is the only thing I can recommend at this time.
