dtgreene: I haven't played Rebirth (don't own it), but the original Binding of Isaac is definitely not suitable. One complete playthrough is going to take more than half an hour, and there is no way to save in the middle.
Well, you're partly right since there are no save slots or a save option per se. BUT, in case you quit during a playthrough you can restore your game the next time you play. Of course, this does not count as a "save" functionality, but to be honest the game would lose its magic with save slots :)

edit: I don't own it either, I have bought it on Steam ;)

Hello,

I'm not sure I'm in the right field suggesting this, as my time is surely appreciated differently, but I recently picked Tangledeep and was surprised by how much fun I could have immediately. It's a somewhat difficult (with customisable difficulties) and time sinking game but doing quick session of 10 minutes allowed me to still progress well enough.

Still in the realm of Dungeon RPG that are very quick and easy to pick, Crypt of the Necrodancer, while also challenging, brings immediate satisfaction even in quick session.

tinyE: ALSO, I DO NOT play an RTS without Pause & Play.
Real time with pause ain't RTS, sorry.

So Age of Empires, Age of Empires 2, Age of Empires 3, Homeworld, Homeworld 2, Galactic Battlegrounds, Dark Reign 1, Dark Reign 2, Total Annihilation, EVERY Supreme Commander, EVERY C&C, and EVERY Red Alert are NOT RTS games?

Okay that means there are what, two or three games in the entire genre?

Good to know. :P

I don't think that longer games are inherently disqualified. I think it really depends on what you are doing while you play it. World of Warcraft, while fun, can see you playing you one gaming session grinding rep, or dungeons you've all but mastered.

One of the things I really lie about Pit People (having put ~33 hours into the game) is that every time I play I get to do a really goofy quest line.
I completely forgot SPAZ. Until now.

The original Binding of Isaac didn't even have that; if you want to reach the end, you have to do it all in one sitting.

(It's the same issue I have with Megaman 4-6, Final Fantasy 3 (FC), and Lufia 2's Ancient Cave.)
Picked up and started playing "Bad North" as a lot of you guys suggested.

I got a couple runs out of my hour playing it, and so far it is a lot of fun!

Really enjoy the minimalist look! Gives off a very cool grim feel.

I haven't seen anyone play them with pause so they can tactically plan their build orders, and I watched at least 200 hours of Age of Empires 2 matches alone.

(side note: get motherfucking Age 2 here Microsoft, I want to join multiplayer scene)

I mean you can do it and it's not bad (although "good" and "bad" are terms which I loathe to use), but technically there exists a term called RTwP.
Roguelikes don't muck around, especially action-based ones like Enter the Gungeon and Risk of Rain.
Rimworld
Doom + II
Duke Nukem 3D
FTL
Minecraft (not any more, but it was fun for a while)
Darkest Dungeon
Stardew Valley
Battle Brothers

And also Space Engine, even though it's not technically a game. Still, you can load it up and fly all over the universe in a matter of minutes. Enjoy the view, take some screens, study some science, and exit. Lots of fun.
Minecraft

Easy to pick up and play and you can save and exit at any time.
