Chacranajxy: I get it - I'm just saying, the story in FFIII is going to be thin.
I'm not expecting greatness from it. And I'm a big fan of the Kemco games we have here tbh so it can't be that much worse.

Chacranajxy: At that point... why bother? FFIII, in particular, is an almost entirely gameplay-centric game. If you strip out the mechanics, you're not left with much.

TheGrimLord: THE STORY

(Which is why I play these games AT ALL)

Remember, VN reader here. I don't need game mechanics and battles to get in the way of a good story. And it's my money, I paid for it. Let me play it however I want.
You should stick to VNs here and avoid RPGs; RPGs are not your genre.

(That's especially true of older RPGs, from before they got a heavy focus on story. In particular, Final Fantasy 3 is such a game. If you only play games for story, you should pass on FF3; it's not a game for you, and there's more story-focused games to spend your money on.)
Admittedly IIRC the remake version of FF3 has a substantially expanded/altered story compared to the original. But yes, it nonetheless falls within the earlier entries in the franchise where story was a bit on the thinner and simpler side.

Among the 2D games, the ones that are generally noted to have the stronger stories are FF2 (more based on the comparison with FF1 and FF3 I think), FF4 (very well-recieved also thanks to its narrative) and FF6 (my personal bias applies here as it's one of my favourite games in general, but I promise it's loved among many people).

I did play only FF6 though, so this is all based on second-hand comments I've read over the years... over time I really want to play all six early games (and replay FF6 because it's so good I need to do a second run, if the Pixel Remaster comes to GOG I think I will buy it without waiting :D ).

Alright so, let's remove the whole "you should stick to VN's, JRPG's are not my genre" mess. I have been playing JRPG's since Final Fantasy IV and Mystic Quest. And yeah, when I got into the PSX ones I absolutely did use the money cheats with gameshark. I played all the PS2 ones legit - most of them - and yeah I had some of the more rare ones like Persona 3 FEs and Shadow Hearts Covenant as well as Xenosaga I, 2 and 3. Yes I cheated the final boss of Episode 2 but not 3. I beat that thing twenty times over because I enjoyed fighting it.

YOU MA'AM, ARE NOT GOING TO TELL ME HOW TO PLAY JRPG GAMES. IT'S MY DAMN MONEY AND NO MAN IS GOING TO FALL THROUGH THE CEILING OFFERING ME A MILLION DOLLARS IF I BEAT THE DAMN THING WITHOUT CHEATS. I DON'T GIVE A DAMN AND YOU CAN {REDACTED}.

ARE WE CLEAR?

Also maybe you're a young buck but back in my time we had game magazines loaded with cheats and codes. Everyone was about cheats and codes. The kids at school were always talking about cheats and codes. None of this BS "you need to finish the game legit" crap happened back in the states where you're from according to the location thingy. I'm forty. I remember those old days. EGM, Nintendo Power and Gamepro were loaded with cheats and codes. They sold cheat books as well. I remember them. When a kid at school got one, the other kids would ask to see it. Because they weren't cheap and we wanted codes for our games. Don't give me crap about cheats and codes. My next door neighbor had Mortal Kombat and he knew the blood code. He always put it in real fast. That's my childhood.

In fact I remember the first time I got a cheat book at a book fair for the NES. It helped me to finally get through Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. Among others of course.

As long as she does. I'm not gonna have people tell me how to play games. I'm sorry. Now yeah, let's get back to the topic.

No, you are not clear, seeing as another user on the GOG forums has accused me of cheating for mentioning glitches and their implications.

(In FF3 (PC version of 3D Remake), the one casual-friendly "cheat" glitch allows you to duplicate consumables (including Phoenix Downs and Elixirs), while there's a couple glitches that lets you do things out of sequence, but have softlock potential.

I don't consider the use of strategy guides to be cheats.

TheGrimLord: Oh and Kandria also came with cheats baked into the gameplay options. Godmode and everything. I was thrilled!
The GOG version of FF8 comes with cheats as well, as does, from what I hear, the GOG version of FF9. (And those games actually have a substantial amount of story (too much IMO), so those games would be more to your liking.)

Anyway, I'm hoping to see at least the Pixel Remasters of 2 and 3 here.

(Seems they've unofficially confirmed that more FF games are coming, but haven't said which ones.)

Let me clarify. These weren't strategy guides. They were codebooks. They'd have cheats for all the games.

Would TheGrimLord and dtgreene please have the grace to stay away from this thread with their off topic discussion.

There is an inbuild chat system on GOG for a reason, or just start a new thread if you need public attention for your debate. Nobody cares about your discussion, you're just derailing this thread where people take serious effort for the community.
