Mage's Initiation (release date: January 30th) (will we also get Al Emmo?)
D'Arc is sixteen years old. He has trained extensively in the elemental arts for the past decade of his young life, under the discerning eyes of the Mage Masters of Iginor. Confined to an existence of academics and magical mastery in their towering hall, the inquisitive initiate often wonders what it would be like to set foot outside in the world he has been secluded from; a world that his Masters deeply shun.
Train your mental and magical mindset in the Reading Hall.

As with all young Mage initiates in training, D'Arc's moment of reckoning arrives and he is summoned to the Hallowed Hall, where the four Mage Masters put him to the test. D'Arc is tasked with completing three quests which will test his magical and mental strength to full capacity. He must return to the Mage's Tower bearing a symbol of proof that he has conquered each task: a lock of hair from priestess, the unspoiled shell of griffon's egg, and the horn of a tricorn.

Join D'Arc on a perilous journey across the medieval land of Iginor. Brave the perilous forest where redcap goblins stalk. Trek across a barren and lawless desert wasteland. Navigate over vast bodies of water where evil masquerades as beauty. And ascend beyond the lofty mountain peaks where the mysterious and hostile race of Flyterians dwell. It is time for D'arc to prove himself. Succeed and he shall be initiated as a fully-fledged Mage, gaining the respect of his Masters and peers.

Fail and nobody shall remember his name.

Mage's Initiation (release date: January 30th)
Looks beautiful. I have never played an adventure/RPG hybrid so I'm not sure what to expect (perhaps just a more elaborate combat than most point-and-clicks?), but the premise and the different paths/subquests sound good.

You should really try the original Quest for Glory games. They're quite good.

They look good indeed. How long are they? (Nowadays my limiting "currency" is time). Is it necessary/advisable to play all of them in order (1-5)? And are these the ones where you can die in ridiculous ways or get trapped in an unwinnable situation if you didn't pick up the right item several hours before? (Just to know what I'm getting into)

Try this - the latest game from the same authors - and it just got a new patch today, plus a lovely art book for free:

They all follow a sequential story (meaning that in some games the character will meet characters from previous games or remember certain events) but the story is not directly linked. You can play any game without any knowledge of previous ones.
I'd say that all games have aged very well. Except maybe QfG2 because it still uses a "parser" interface and has EGA graphics (even though there's a free VGA remake with point'n click interface).

They all have specific settings:

Quest for Glory 1 - traditional medieval-fantasy setting.
Quest for Glory 2 - "arabian nights" setting
Quest for Glory 3 - african setting (still very rare till this day).
Quest for Glory 4 - gothic horror (sort of Ravenloft)
Quest for Glory 5 - greek-roman myths

I'd say the games play really more like classic RPG than the traditional "Sierra" (die a 1000 deaths) adventures. There are still puzzles, but some of them have several solutions and approaches (magic, stealth, brute force, etc).
And the games are open-world and have day/night cycles.
Besides you can export your character from one game to another, like in the old RPGs.

The games do take some time to finish. But I think all good RPGs are long.

I suggest beginning with the first game if you're interested. Hope I've been of help.

You were! I think I'll be trying them. To the wishlist they go. ;)

Here is the information regarding Tropico 6 release on Gog. It looks like the publishers/developers are negotiating with Gog. It might get released after the Steam release, which is scheduled for May this year, unless they delay it further.
