I feel like playing something similar to Minecraft but not actually Minecraft. Are there any similar games on GOG you can recommend?

You cool with 2D? Cause Terraria is a more grindy, boss/enemy/survival focused than Minecraft is.

I'm going to go against recommending Windforge, as the world is comparatively static, and while open, linear in terms of absolute advancement. And there's a whole heaping helping of issues that I've gone over in my review of the game. It isn't very good at the building aspect for one, due to a 3/4ths isometric they pull on the tiles, making it practically impossible to deal with the fiddly little tiles. Doesn't help that if anything falls off the edge, you probably aren't getting it back.

If Starbound were on GOG, I'd give that a suggest seeing as you have an entire universe to play with, but the game is sadly suffering from feature creep and scope creep. Also, I think the designers are over engineering the game.

What Minecraft features are you looking for in a game?

I second that. Terraria is 2D Minecraft, more focused on survival than creating things, and boy is its survival pretty well fledged, and even better than Minecraft. Though in the creative department there is no creative mode, but the materials you get in survival can build you a lot more than is possible in survival Minecraft.

An open world game focused on exploration and survival, with a bit of crafting thrown in.

Windforge or Terraria might fit that bill although both are side scrolling 2D games :)
Don't Starve?

Not played more then the demo myself (and never actually played Minecraft) but I've heard it's quite similar.
I'll Forth Terraria.

Very good fun game that is deceivingly complex

It's very similar :) You get LOADS of crafting options and you can explore the world and even go into portals where you can try to survive even in more difficult conditions :)

If the OP wants a Minecraft-like game then Don't Starve certainly fits the bill :)

Robinson's Requiem, perhaps? It's not really as open as it appears to be, but it's a pretty interesting and unique survival/adventure game.

Other than that, I also support the suggestion of Terraria.

I've actually never touched the portals. I never feel bored just doing my own thing in sandbox. The expansion hits Early Access very soon, so I'm thinking we'll see that by the end of next year... Maybe even Don't Starve Together if they're feeling nice.
Terraria and I think that Robinson's Requiem might count.
Get Terraria and then pitch your copy of Minecraft because you will never need it again.

This is me dressed as a Xenomorph. Can you do that in Minecraft? :P

Hudson: Is this gonna be a standup fight, sir, or another bughunt?

Gorman: All we know is that there's still no contact with the colony, and that a xenomorph may be involved.

Frost: Excuse me sir, a-a what?

Gorman: A xenomorph.

Hicks: It's a bughunt.
