I'm hoping to finish a few that have sat half finished for too long like Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver, Prince of Persia Rival Swords, and Devil May Cry (the original). Plus a few I haven't tried yet like LA Noire, Kingdom Hearts, and The Evil Within. What about the rest of you guys?
I can't really predict where my whims or circumstances will take me over a whole year, but in the short term I should probably get around to finishing Dragon Quest 2. I've also been on a bit of an Origin/Looking Glass kick recently, so I'll probably get back to playing Thief and then maybe move on to seeing what Terra Nova is all about. My other recent thing is that I've been really feeling classic 8-bit PC games, so I might try to see which of those old games I can beat (e.g., Spelunker, Shamus, Gemstone Warrior, etc.).

I'm hoping to finally tackle Witcher 3 and its expansions; finally buy Disco Elysium and play that; finally finish up Watch Dogs 2; and finish up Horizon Zero Dawn.

That's just for starters. That's certainly NOT everything.

I really liked LA Noire (Complete); played that numerous years ago on PC.

Since you mentioned The Evil Within - yeah, I need to work on TEW1 base-game (started that, never finished it) + its Season Pass; and actually get over to playing TEW2.

Yep sometimes you just get an itch to play a game or genre. I currently have a strong urge to try to finish a bunch of I started and abandoned over the years. I actually just stopped playing Devil May Cry a few months ago at the same mission I stopped at originally almost 15 years ago.

Just before midnight my wife and I beat the Desperate Escape DLC for Resident Evil 5, making it the last "game" I beat in 2020, and just after midnight we went on to the Lost in Nightmares DLC, making it the first one I beat in 2021.

I had read that this DLC is much better but frankly I'd call it a draw - each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. Lost in Nightmares lets you play through the events that lead to Jill's death / disappearance (not a big spoiler as that part's revealed very early into RE5). I've always been very curious about this DLC since it obviously differs immensely from the base game in terms of setting, taking place in the Spencer Estate (the same location as in the original Resident Evil) before any of the base game's enemies have appeared in the RE universe.

And it's indeed very interesting how the developers handled a bonus chapter that has an entirely different setting than the base game. A big portion of the DLC is frankly pure fan service - for a while you just walk around areas from the original game in "actual 3D!", solve a few basic puzzles and stumble upon a bunch of homages to very memorable moments from RE1. You won't encounter Majini nor actual zombies here but there's a pretty decent new enemy type that's fitting to the Spencer Estate and you get one highly custom encounter here that's just a joy to play in coop (and I have no idea how this one works in single player as it requires pretty tight coordination between both players).

Besides that one encounter the gameplay of this brief DLC (about one hour) isn't particularly great but it's an enjoyable change from the everything else in RE5. It doesn't really extend the story in any meaningful way but fans should appreciate it out of nostalgia alone. I certainly did.

Despite my list above, I got sidetracked and instead completed Astebreed as my first game of the year. A cool little shoot-em-up that I don't have much in the way of complaints about it. Even one of the most commonly-cited complaints (no English voices to understand what's going on with the plot while you are assaulted by million bullets), was just a meh-whatever. I don't play those games for the plot.

Finished Skyrim SE on PS4 today january 1st after 125 hours. This is my 2nd time through SE and finished it twice on Standard Skyrim. What more is there to say? It's Skyrim.

Streets of Red: Devil's Dare Deluxe

So-so beat-em-up. Not much in the way of looks or sound and it's neither particularly long, nor particularly hard. Especially in the normal difficulty, the game is way too generous with health and special attack refills and any kind of challenge is mostly concentrated on the bosses. Even then, some good old hit-and-run alongside special attacks will eventually take care of them. So, even though the game threatens you with having to pay for your continues, its threats feel empty (I ended up not using a single continue and I beat the game on my second try).

On the plus side, I liked how the game allows you to select the order with which to tackle each stage and every one of the characters feels different to play, which gives it some nifty replayability, especially when you add multiplayer to the mix. I also got a chuckle from some of the references, although I felt like the game is overdosing it a bit, especially with the bosses who are all either a parody of a movie villain, or some other famous person.

Just finished Battle Chasers: Nightwar a few hours ago. It's a damn solid game IMO. Will play it again in NG+ because that's where the real game is.
