Hey
As the title says, my mom is looking for a new game. She is a writer, and whenever she i having writer's block, she wants to play a simple platformer in the likes of Donkey Kong Country in which she can think about her writing. So here is what she wants:
1. A difficult game. Not as hard as Spelunky, but a bit harder than Donkey Kong.
2. Simple. Something she doesn't have to think about a lot while she is playing it. No hard puzzles, no big plot.
3. Not repetitive.
4. Preferably a platformer.
5. Low violence.
Thanks for your suggestions. The game doesn't have to be on gog, either.

If it can be a puzzle instead of a platformer:
Sokobond

As for platformers there is
Escape Goat
It is simple, low violence yet fairly difficult.
It also has a sequel, which apparently is just as good, though I havent tried it yet.

Also: VVVVVV

EDIT:
There are also 2 Apogee classics: Crystal Caves and Secret Agent. I liked them personally, but I know others don't find them that good. The engine is similar to the first Commander Keens.

Rogue Legacy maybe? A great game, reasonable difficulty. Not sure how "repetative" she would find it - it's all about dying and trying again with whatever you unlocked through previous trials, but every time the levels are generated randomly, and you get a new character with random traits, so every time you play differently.

I’d go with Trine, such a beautiful universe it can only help with writer’s block ;)
Sounds like you want Terraria

I'll check these out. Not sure if this is her thing, but I'll have her look at them, too. Thanks!

Non violent? Errr Gianna Sisters.
I`d say Trine or Trine 2.
Also, tried any of the Giana Sisters games?
They`re good & have varying difficulties you can pick from, plus it has Machinae Supremacy music in game.

What more could anyone want? \m/ oo \m/
I was going to recommend The Novelist but that doesn't meet the criteria! :p

How about Castle in the Darkness? Or Ducktales Remastered?

Can someone check this link for me? Apparently isn't available in my country...

UPDATE: I got her Shovel Knight, Terraria, Castle in the Darkness, and Ducktales Remastered. Thanks for all your help!
I gave up on Shovel Knight out of frustration, it is damn hard later on.

Weird, why isn't the game available on my country? And yeah, i enjoyed it back then on the megadrive and a few years later i played the demo of the new version (that's a remake).
I'm your new biggest fan. That's the sweetest post ever :o)

Where you go to buy it says "Buy Rocket Knight (UK)" so looks like UK only.
