It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

https://www.gog.com/downloader

Some linux users use LGogDownloader:

And there's also gogrepo:

These are alternative downloaders for GOG games (the first was developed by GOG, the other two developed by users). I don't use any of them. I just download via my browser. I also don't use Galaxy.

Galaxy is still in BETA stage so it's not working like it should. Like downloading AND browsing the forums. So for now it's only good for downloading games.

GoG-Dowloader is the program that the site used before Galaxy. I need this because I just tried downloading a really big game and it failed half way through for whatever reason and I have linux now.

Thank you for your honest answer, i thought will be more fast to open GOG from shortcut and i do not need to open browser, but let me see whether my thoughts are right.

3) Downloading with your browser - this isn't very recommended, as it offers no pausing/resuming, and no error protection???

You can download GOG games from a browser but with using external downloaders. I assume you are on Windows, and as such, you have Free Download Manager. Download your GOG games with it if you want a really powerful tool at downloading.

And GOG Galaxy is just meant to be a gaming client for GOG's side, something a lot like Steam and Origin, except its selling point is that you decide whether you want it or not when playing games downloaded from GOG, not use it according to CD Projekt's will. At this stage its just a beta so things don't really work out well, but what GOG Galaxy does that's good right now is the popup chat window, downloading game backups or downloading and installing straight away without the backups, and having library management in the client, with online showing all your library and offline just showing what you downloaded. Also if a game updates and breaks something, if you set the update procedure to manual, you will be able to rollback to the previous version of the game. It will soon include features that you can disable (you decide you don't want achievements for example), and that's what I remember off the top of my head.

Just remember that if your experience with Galaxy is poor, such as when browsing te forums using it, remember that its still in a 'beta phase'. There is a pinned thread that caters to GOG Galaxy development and squishing of bugs, etc, and there is an entire wishlist spot for whatever features its missing if you wish to see it improve.

I use the DownThemAll! Add-On for Firefox, which has all of these and much more.

curl.
I have always used my browser to download games from GOG (hundreds of them + goodies) along with all kinds of other stuff not GOG related and I have never had any problems or corrupt downloads. I see no need for any browser extension or download utility personally but then I also never have any desire to pause downloads. Even then, I think my browser has built in support for that if I did want to.

I have tried Galaxy and look forward to when it is finished and working properly but for now I consider it nowhere near ready for prime time. I have tried it twice months apart including recently and it still has too many issues and lacks too many planned features to bother with just yet in my opinion. I tried both the Windows and Mac versions and came to the same conclusion in both cases. I am not knocking it. I just am not into testing software that isn't done myself. I want to play my games, not test and report on the issues with the client to access them.
Ah, this is simple:
Good: Its not compulsory yet, hence don't use it.
Bad: It exists, and eventually will take over the whole site.

Give me solid proof that it'll take over the whole site and that it will be compulsory. The blue texters here said it won't take over the site and will remain optional as so.
