Just a heads up, Origin finally asked to have itself be uninstalled and have EA App installed today.

I let it uninstall itself, but didn't really notice if it was an option. In any case, as stated before in this thread, I already had EA App installed.

That Command and Conquer The Ultimate Collection Additional Content never showed up, but I had already backed up the content anyway.
Don't know don't care, EA Desktop is a heap of trash they can keep it, I added <Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true"/> to my C:\ProgramData\Origin\local.xml so I can keep Origin as long as they're too lazy to port their new trash to OS X.

idbeholdME: Also, yes. Bulletstorm was a GFWL game, even the retail box, which I have. But I never had an issue with GFWL games, because they still allow you to play even with just a local, offline account.
Actually some GFWL games require online activation, Bulletstorm is one of them.

Edit: I see above Bulletstorm was one of those last few GFWL titles that required internet authentication. Bummer.

Well glad we got the re-release then.

True. Bulletstorm also has a release date check, which is of course no longer functional. But nothing a crack can't solve, played through the game again like 2 months ago.

But games that have only GFWL and no other additional DRM layer on top of that work fine. Like Arkham Asylum/City GOTY. When the GFWL screen pops up, you can just create a local offline account and it works. If you don't however and you just skip the process, you can't save progress. It can also be somewhat problematic to get the GFWL overlay to work on modern systems. Had to hunt down some specific .dll files to get it to work on my Windows 10.

Yeah - other than bulletstorm, which required a bit of effort, I've never had any issues with GFWL games.

To be honest, I think it only got a bad rap because it "wasn't Steam" at a time when Steam mania was at its peak. Key thing is offline account and auto-log in to that offline account and the games work and save normally.

Agree, never had problems with GFWL myself other than Kane and Lynch deleting my save file, but I wouldn't be surprised if it got it's bad reputation because it was used on notoriously bad PC ports like it and GTA 4 and all the issues all along were the games fault not GFWLs.

Well, shit, I never grabbed that. The Origin app won't let me download it anymore? I tried running it but it just... froze.

If you add <Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true"/> to your C:\ProgramData\Origin\local.xml you can keep Origin.

Thanks. I'm downloading the extra content now.

Edit: NOPE. The EA App uninstalled Origin immediately. I did manage to download the stuff before that happened, but damn, it didn't even ASK me.

Also I think it's deleted some games from my profile. Fucking. Awesome.

Edit: Forcing an install of the old Origin client brought them back. I'm now taking screenshots of every item's properties to get the CD key and date when I registered them, and I plan to show these to EA support so I can get them added again.

Edit 2: Restarting brought -most- items back, except for Crysis 2 Maximum Edition. The Medal of Honor expansion packs and Mass Effect Pinnacle Station were moved to DLC, and my second copy of Mass Effect is gone. I tried redeeming my Crysis 2 Maximum key and it said it was already redeemed (to me) so I'll have to talk to support to get it back.

Edit 3: Also of note is that all of the C&C games mention their DLC in the title... except for 3. So that has me a bit worried.

Many games are just unsupported, support won't add them back, they don't even replace the Steam keys they banned two years ago anymore. Hence why I plan to keep Origin as long as possible with that trick. Lots of features are missing too like controlling cloud saves, overlay, etc per game, viewing keys and so on.

psadler: I will never use any of their shitty clients.
Ill at Dragon Age 4 for sure. Ive a feeling its gonna be great one, how many years they have worked on it, already. Many.

The only game missing is "Bulletstorm Light", the standard version shows, also all other games.
Funny enough the EA App shows the standard version as "N/A", even if I have it installed locally.
Out of curiosity I opened the Origin client just now and am offered to install the EA App without any opt-out option. The pop-up to install the EA App blocks access to anything else in the Origin client and on top of that warns me that if I install the EA App, Origin will be deinstalled, but there isn't ANY option given to NOT install the EA App (but for closing the Origin program and using neither, thus blocking access to my EA games).
Findings thus far:

- no option to open the App in my library, it always opens with an advertisement page

- no option to hide games

- big ugly icons, no option to pick icon size

- Crysis 3 won't start (it ran fine through Origin), citing 'a technical error'. No shit, it's technical! I thought it was psychological and the game was shy.

- the EA App asks what location I want to install it, I pick C:\Games yet ignores that and still installs in Program Files.

And they say they launched the new app because they 'recognized the limitiations of this platfrom [Origin]'. The new EA App is FAR MORE LIMITED. What a piece of sh*t it is.

I tried it out and deinstalled it last year. I thought if this is the true release, they would have ironed out above limitations, but no, nothing seems to have improved since the Beta.

Yeah it's really bad, tons of features have been removed or broken. Origin is much better.
