I wanted to add the free doom and quake stuff to the list. Must have been a lapse of sanity. Those games are quite a mess to figure out what even turns on, let alone how to cobble stuff together.

But There are freebies of both. So instead of making the list. Its just an annotation here as a reminder they are available. But I have no idea why the scene is a puke of random content. Good luck figuring it all out!

ChuckBeaver: Yeah, ^^^ plus I hate that point and click stuff unless it has some logic to it. QFG is fine, and Kings Quest series was good.
Makes me think about La-Mulana, which has this sort of "guide dang it" element, where the logic behind some of the puzzles isn't reasonable to figure out until you already know the solution (perhaps because you looked it up).

La-Mulana 2, from what I understand and have seen from a video of someone playing the kickstarter demo, is better when it comes to these sorts of puzzles; there are still adventure game style puzzles, but it looks like it's feasible to figure them out without just looking at the solution.

Anyway, back to the thread's topic:
Speaking of La-Mulana, the original 8-bit style version is freeware, and can be obtained at:
https://archive.org/details/La-Mulana
(It's tagged as role-playing, but that's a lie; the game is best described as an adventure/metroidvania hybrid, with the adventure game elements being prominent and challenging.)
Nevermind....was looking at the newer version. Damn overlap information because same name of the game.

Not my cup of tea, but ill help it a little by adding this information about getting past some glitches on modern machines.

have fun everyone!

The game Zero Sievert is also hosted at Itch, but it is the older version. The latest version is 0.15 that you have to get on the developers discord channel. But if you cant use discord. At least you can play the previous version of it for free.
https://caarbo.itch.io/zero-sievert

Just click the "Take me to the download" when the popup to pay is requested. Carb(dev) is going to host the early version of the game for free up until nearing the release of his game. He also accepts ideas for the game so long as it follows the main game ideas.

So if you play and can think of a story or a quest line that could fall into what he has already in game. Join the discord to tell him. He will probably add it to the game, so long as you do not expect payment or credit. You will know you were a part of a cool game though! He already took a few of my ideas for in game. Made my day! =D
Friendly remind stuff is sometimes free. Also I like Zero Sievert and version 0.16 is released.
Another friendly reminder these games exist, if yer new to the forum and may not be aware of free content.

Also, Zero Sievery is no longer free and they are now delisted.

wolfsite: https://www.superfighter.com/

Super Fighter Team have acquired the rights to some IP's and have released a few for free on PC/Windows.

Sango Fighter
Sango Fighter 2
Super Fighter
Tough Guy: Fighting Titans

They are pretty decent Fighting games though I'm sure they don't hit top tier.

ChuckBeaver: Thats ok. More people digging and sifting= better.
Little Fighter 2 also (Win only)

Dungeon Crawl

One Must Fall 2097

TORCS racing game

Powermanga (vertical shooter)

Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe (WW2 tactical squad action, first installment now free)

Eternal Daughter (metroidvania)

Warsow (FPS arena, not "Warsaw"! Free on GOG)

P.S. Honestly I guess 0 AD would be great but quite resource-heavy (for potatoes)

Well, it depends on the potato. You can run Stalker Anomaly on an intel xe 96 graphics no problem.

So if anyone finds some good free games that are intensive, ill look at those as well.
You could try some board games

another try.

Strange Adventures in Infinite Space. as if Star Control 2 was distilled down into a 15-minutes rogue-lite.

since Iji didn't click, this time I'll go with Distorted Travesty trilogy, a very hardcore metroidvania.

Distorted Travesty looks GREAT. I'm going to give it a try!

I'm a newbie here. I just joined in this community a few hours ago. I want to play this game. How can I get myself involve?
