Lhademmor: ...
I haven't played it, but The Nameless Mod is supposed to be a really good total conversion of Deus Ex.

http://thenamelessmod.com/

It's a Mod, in case you didn't pick that up.

I host Pearson Wung's old "Rogue's Quest", which would go under (unsurprisingly) RPGs (Rogue-like) . Here be da link...

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Rogues_Quest/

...it contains his final release, which never got past beta but is fully playable (and enjoyable), a dungeon creator/editor, plus around 30 fanmade dungeons.

Leroux: Hm, I'd be happier with putting the P&C adventures by Ben304 under the Adventures category. They're quite hidden in the developers section, I doubt anyone will look for them there, especially if they don't know who Ben304 is ...

GameRager: Source ports/engines are programs used to run older games(provided you own them and have their data files) on newer OSs and in higher resolutions/etc....some are even released with/are freeware renamed recompiles of older games using publicly released source code for the original games.
K. Thanks for clearing that up. Things like ScummVM? I'm not sure that would fit into the purpose of this thread - after all, it's about free games, and engines seem more like a way to run games - you still need to get the games from somewhere. But maybe I'm mistaken.

Also, games added, thanks guys
ne_zavarj pointed this out on the random finds thread:
Dungeon Masters appears to be a very faithful clone of the original game with nice modernized graphics.
Ravenhood 3 looks like a mod for the game as well.

I'm downloading for sure. :)

Which game are you referring to, particularly? The site you linked to offers several different DM clones ...

Anyway, I hadn't realized yet that there are many custom dungeons for Return To Chaos, like that Ravenhood 3 mod. Looks good, thanks for the link! :)

None in particular. That wouldn't be fair considering the different ports that some will prefer over the others.
Gunshine.net is an F2P MMO with the unique theme of being set in the present and involving gangs. While currently in open beta, the game is still getting tons of new features, the most recent being a huge gameplay balance and crafting.

Thank you. :)
The Black Heart is a high-quality fighting game that utilizes the free MUGEN engine. The game features custom macabre graphics, fluid animations, and a cast of creepy characters including an insane child occultist, an entity that was placed in an iron maiden for 400 years, and many more.

Bloody Zombies is a action-platformer played in a 128 x 96 resolution with more gore than in any 8-bit (I think it is) game. Players navigate a man who is trying to rescue Barbara from zombies with a lawnmower. As a platforming element, the player is able to jump extreme heights with the bloody mess caused by the brutal slaying of the zombies and gives you a good 10 minute time waster.

Man I'm on a role this week...
I'm currently having fun with Hurrican, a side-scrolling arcade shooter based on Rainbow Arts' Turrican series (C64, Amiga, Atari ST etc., 1989-1991). Would fit in the Action / Platform category.
Technobabylon is a great series of short but very good adventure games with a futuristic, kind of dystopian setting and neat story twists. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 (probably more episodes to come).
I'm gonna have to deny these two. As stated in the first post (originally by doomer), beta's and limited games are not allowed on the list. I'm not trying to categorize every single game on the internet, only those that are free, full versions (or 'completed' if you like) and that you have actually played, and can recommend (that last one is pretty important - otherwise, why not just google 'free games'?). At least that's how I read his original post, and that's how I aim to continue it. As for Gunshine.net, let me know when it comes out of beta. :-)

All other games added. Also, I had to shave off the category of "In-browser game publishers" (like Newgrounds) as the post was otherwise too long to be saved - and besides, flash games are really not the aim of this list. Otherwise, it would grow FAR too big.

OK, no problem.

I agree in not adding flash games. There's way too many lists of flash games in other places, guess we don't need another one.
Might I suggest adding a 'space simulator' category for games like Wing Commander 1, Oolite, and Vega Strike? Currently that type of game is spread out all across the different categories, and there's enough of them on the list to justify having a separate category.

EDIT: List of space simulators currently on the list as follows (Not including what's on the mods or MMO list):
Wing Commander 1
Wing Commander: Secret Ops
Wing Commander Saga Prologue
Wing Commander Privateer: Gemini Gold
Flight Commander
The Babylon Project
Babylon 5: I've Found Her
Oolite
Vega Strike
