ZFR: Yo! I understand lots of you are busy and can't play a full Kafia, but this is literally a game where you can just type shoot x every now and then without following any strategy or even reading. Come on and show some Chridtmas spirit.

Lift? Bookwyrm? Cadaver? Flub? Vitek? Joppo? Micro?
Kafia? Chridtmas? Are you breadcrumbing something?

If I would be able to check in regularly throughout the day, I'd be all over that. I love me some RR Mafia.

Sadly, I'd probably end up like Lift did in one of the early ones; be away for a RL day and come back to find it's a 2v1 and the townies have basically figured each other out.

He's secretly Mike Tyson.

can I name a slot bookwyrm and then if you happen to be around you might get a chance to take a shot? and if not, well, we've had no-shows in roulette before and it's not totally ruined the game.

We can just shoot him straight up.
Huh, I hosted tiny game in 2016. I have no recollection of that event.

Standalone novels by KSR that'd make decent alternative starting points to see if you like his writing at all: New York 2140 (probably his most accessible novel), The Years of Rice and Salt (an alternate history; not connected to his main multiverse), Red Moon and Antarctica (closest in style to the Mars trilogy, but probably even harder to find).

Have you read much science fiction in general? If you give some likes and particularly dislikes, and some direction of what types of books you'd like to read more of, I'd be happy to give you some personalized recommendations based on that.
I suppose I am forced to read it then. I can't stand up to you.
Thanks for recommendation, I am going to search and try to find it available somewhere around here.

Looks like it's not going to be easy task only Red Mars, Green Mars and recently The Years of Rice and Salt came out here. No other thing was ever published in this backwards country.

I think I read quite a decent amount of SF but I could certainly do with more recommendations.
I am thinking about my dislikes but it is that I am mostly indifferent to some sci-fi stuff, not outright hate it. Sure, I dislike The Martian Chronicles but I like rest of Bradbury a lot, so it is of little indication of taste. I also read many W40k, ST or SW novels and I certainly hated some of those because they are simply shit, but as it is very varied collection of themes and autors it is hard to take something out of it.
I've got to thing about it some more.

Are you only considering Czech translations? Due to availability, or are you hesitant hesitant about reading English books?

If the former, I'd say there should be options for ordering online - even my local Dutch English-language bookstore delivers to the Czech Republic (at least, I'm assuming that's where you're based?); I guess shipping would only be worth it when buying bulk, but there should be better options; worst case amazon.de?

If the latter, consider trying anyway? Your English is definitely good enough; my own experience back when was that my reading speed increased tremendously after finishing just a handful of English books, and I've been reading nothing else since - it's so liberating not to have to deal with crappy translations, nor series that they stopped translating halfway through!

Some more specific examples of books you were indifferent to also works for me - I'd just like to have some better idea of your taste so I won't blindly recommend what I myself like, but can actually direct you to books that'll work for you.

And yeah, I didn't care much for the Martian Chronicles either. Right now I'm getting the impression you've mostly stuck to "classic" SF - but I don't know if that's due to availability or preference? (I haven't seen you name anything yet which was first published in the last decade, maybe even two?)

I've read plenty of ST and SW myself back when. The best of them were definitely fun and worthwhile entertainment. A Stitch in Time, The Lives of Dax, the New Frontier series, Timothy Zahn's Thrawn novels... Not needing to do world building and just focus on a story can definitely be an advantage for some authors. Still, there's so much out there that's better all around that it was an easy decision for me at some point to just stop with them.

I am going to be far more available starting on monday. Sign me up for any game after that date (and up to early february when work is bound to pick up steam again). In fact I am itching to play in the next SH.

PookaMustard: Unless "The Holy Bible" is interesting, then not really.

Vitek: It is not.
Going to disagree with you there. Tho I admit most people have a hard time reading it because it mixes a lot of genres and is not exactly ordered chronologically.

I didn't realise that was meant to be a secret. I told our postman just this morning.

JoeSapphire: Ah yes that works, I'll make hidden boards for active games, and public boards for past games then.
