Hard claim Role Cop
Why on earth would a Townie bid for Role Cop?
A couple of good reasons.
In a ten-player game, it was most likely there would be only two mafia, and there are far more important roles for them to bid on. Godfather, strongman, roleblocker, ninja, vigilante… any of these would be way more useful to mafia, so I knew role cop probably wouldn’t be picked at all. (Surprise to me that it was, and by another probable Townie, sorry micro!) That made it far more likely that I wouldn’t screw myself and be vanilla like last time. (Thanks again, bler.) But far more importantly, exactly because there were such a small handful of super-useful mafia roles, the role cop would actually function – in practical terms – like a full-blooded alignment cop.
Extra useful since I believe the mafia team actually snagged the cop role.
There are certain roles on the list that just make no sense as one alignment or the other. Why would a Townie ever bid for Godfather? Why would a scum ever bid for Lightning Rod? With a little luck and some good strategy in picking my targets, I figured if I could dodge a nightkill, I could come up with enough results to at least clear a player or two.
Night 1 – target was flubbucket. I’m not gonna tell you his role, just that the odds that a scum would pick it in a game this small is so remote as to not be worth considering. He’s locked Town, hard.
Night 2 – bookwyrm. Now, his role could be picked as either alignment, and I’ll out it if I need to… but now that I know his role and compare it to a) how he’s played and b) the Nightkills… I would be very surprised if he were scum, and unfortunately, nuts to my actual reads this game. But most importantly… even if he is scum… we can actually sort that out pretty easily.
