Leonard03: Cause he was Unvoting someone...
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Would bold make a difference when he's unvoting someone he's not voting?
ooops. Got to keep track.
I'll let it stand for the time being.

Lifthrasil: Note: I added a small clarification to the rules document since something I thought to be obvious apparently wasn't.
So I reread the rules and just realized one thing I hadn't noticed before. After being converted, your win condition changes and now becomes dependent on your new faction. A faction that just aquired a new member.

So should I hope to be converted or not?

If you’re town why would you want to be converted? Your loyalty should be to town and all your efforts should be to help town win. If you are unfortunate and get converted then of course your loyalty will switch to your new faction, but you don’t ever want to be recruited.

You're right of course, I'm just wondering mathematically which would be a better option. Assuming you know for a fact that the scum are going to recruit someone at night. Let's say randomly. Is it mathematically better for you if (a) they hit a scum/hacker and die or (b) they convert you? (Option (c) they convert another townie, is of course the worst for you.)

Depends on whether your new faction is about to bite it or not. For example, if you get converted on the same night the last of your (new) teammates is busy being killed by the other faction, it might not be so nice.

Being the conversion that pushes your new teams numbers to parity with town, with the other faction having been eliminated, might be an alright scenario. If you like being alien scum, of course.

This is more a question for a normal cult game, in this game we have some reasonably good counters to conversion (as I've already covered) so playing with the hope of being converted is probably just more likely to get you lynched.

In the last game (which was a more pure cult game) then playing in a way that you may hope to be recruited may be a way to victory, though as trent said you should always play towards your current win condition (not least because if you are playing to help the cult / scum win and don't get converted you lose).

I was actually thinking (though for the above reasons I don't think this applies in this game) last game that the optimal strategy in a cult game is to kill the best players first, before they can be converted and become enemies. That way the cult can only recruit the players more likely to have a noticeable change in playstyle and should be easier to catch.

adaliabooks: ~ as trent said you should always play towards your current win condition ~
Agreed on that. Anything else is anti-town - even though you might be increasing your chances for conversion (which isn't putting you that much closer to a win) but at the same time risk getting mislynched while still Town or good-lynched on your first day as a converted player.
@adalia, would you say one player is becoming 3x more unfortunate than the rest? If yes, who would that be - flub, Leonard, Sage or Krypsyn?

I don't know... Krypsyn is being consistent with what I would expect of him, plus I'm not scum so he can't be ;)
flub I can never get a read on either way, could be town or could be scum I have no idea yet.
Sage and Leonard both aren't contributing as much as I'd like and I'd happily vote either.

But if I were to choose one player to place a serious vote on it would mchack.
Something doesn't feel right with his posting so far. I don't ever remember him being quite this eager to place votes so early, but admittedly it's been quite a while since I've played a game with him. And he might just be bored because of the whole broken finger thing.
Gut says he's scum though.

Leonard03: hokey smokes 6 page already, ok here we go...
avatar
ZFR: If you find it too much, you can go to Settings to increase the number of posts per page from 20 to 50.
That way you will only have 3 pages instead of 6 to read, so it should go much faster.
This made me giggle.

I've been here killing lurkers just as long as yogs has.
The less you talk the less I can tell about your alignment, and I don't like that.

Have you ever been scum yet?
I remember your stellar neutral performance in yogs' game but I don't recall any games where you were scum...
