General Rules

1. No Cryptoclaiming. This is claiming in some sort of unbreakable code related to your PM. It breaks the game and ruins the fun. Don’t do it.

2. No betting among players. This could lead to awkward situations like someone claiming Town Arsonist just for kicks and money. It could ruin the fun. Don’t do it.

3. The moderator of this game is me, Lifthrasil. The co-moderator of this game is dedoporno. Should you need to contact either of us privately, use the chat system of this forum.

4. Should you wish to contact us publicly, you may bold your requests within the game thread.

5. All players have a vote, which they may place on any player, including themselves. Once a player has received the necessary number of votes, they will be lynched and the game will go to Night. No amount of unvoting can prevent lynch once majority has been reached. You MUST unvote before placing a new vote, or your new vote will be ignored.

6. A player may also vote to No-Lynch. If No-Lynch gains 50% of the vote, no one is lynched and the game goes to Night.

7. You must bold your votes and unvotes like this: Unvote Krypsyn, Vote agentcarr16

8. Don’t edit your posts. This is VERY important. Editing a post is grounds for post restriction or modkill. In addition, don’t make two consecutive posts within 10 minutes of each other or the forum software will merge them, creating the appearance of an edited post. Don’t do it.

9. You may not post in the game thread during the Night. Don’t do it.

10. Do not quote your PM. This is akin to cryptoclaiming and it could lead to modkill. Don’t do it.

11. Do not discuss the game with anyone outside of this game thread, unless explicitly given permission to do so in your PM. This could ruin the fun. Don’t do it.

12. All players should post at least once every 36 hours. If you expect to be unable to post for longer than this, please notify me or dedo. If your most recent post shows “posted 2 days ago”, you will be prodded both by PM and in the thread. Modkill or replacement is possible if the situation warrants.

13. If you cannot continue to play, notify dedo or myself and we will attempt to find a replacement.

14. All players on the winning team win, even if they are dead, assuming any secondary win conditions have been met. Any player who has been modkilled loses, regardless of win conditions.

15. Have fun! Remember it’s a game. Keep Calm and Game On. If someone ticks you off, convince everyone else that he is scum and lynch them.

16. The length of the Days will be approximately (Half the number of players)+2 days long. I.e. we start with 8 days, but the Days will get shorter. If the end of a Day falls on a weekend, it may be extended.

17. Night will end when all night actions are in or after 2 days maximum. If someone doesn't post his night action within 2 days, it is lost for that night.
Since this is an unconventional game, we decided to make it as open as possible. So almost all the rules are known to all to reduce the confusion. There will be enough of that generated by you lot yourself. Therefore, here they are the

Special Rules:

- There will be a Cult. The cultists have access to a scum chat, but they don't have a factional kill.
- There is, however, a Cult Leader who can recruit one person per night into the Cult. Only the CL can recruit.

- There will be no additional scum faction. Just the Cult and the Townies – or 'Stationies', or 'Employees' in this case.

- To offset the Cult Leader's ability, there will be a Deprogrammer variant: the Deprogrammer can target one person at night. If that person is Cult, their brain programming will be deleted – along with the brain. I.e. that person dies. If that person is Town, nothing happens. The Deprogrammer doesn't get a nightly feedback on the success or failure of his power. He just has to see and interpret the results in the morning.

- The Deprogrammer and the Cult Leader are nemesises: the Cult Leader can't recruit the Deprogrammer (the attempt will fail) and the Deprogrammer can't kill the Cult Leader. However, if the Deprogrammer targets the Cult Leader, he will lose his recruiting ability (the Deprogrammer won't be informed of this). If both target the same player at night, they will cancel each other out and both get failure messages.

- The Cult Leader can, however, try to take out the Deprogrammer with a Kamikaze attack. He sacrifices himself and targets one player. If that player is the Deprogrammer, he dies too. If he isn't he continues to live (but the Cult Leader still dies).

- There will be two regular roles: Tracker and 1-shot Vigilante.
- If a regular power role is recruited, they lose their ability and become regular Cultists.

Win condition for Town: wipe out the Cult.
Win condition for the Cult: render the game unwinnable for Town. I.e. remove the Deprogrammer and achieve the majority of votes.

- As soon as a player is recruited, his win condition will change, of course.

- If the Cult loses the Cult Leader, they'll just have to play well to steer the lynches. They don't get a factional kill!
- But since a Day 1 lynch of the Cult Leader would unbalance things, we have a measure in place to counteract that. No, we won't tell you what measure that is.

UPDATE: There will be flips. But since it isn't known what makes the special rules special, they will NOT be revealed upon death. The Deprogrammer will look like a Vanilla, the CL will look like a regular Cultist. The normal power roles (Vig and Tracker), however, will be revealed normally.

Generic Town PM:
Greetings [Player]. You are a loyal citizen and employee of TriOptimum. Something strange is going on. Some former colleagues have startet worshipping a new God instead of the Corporation. These have to be wiped out if you want to survive until the rescue ship comes. Good luck.

Your powers: You have your vote. Use it wisely.

Generic Cult PM:
Look at you, [Player]. You have seen the light. Shodan has revealed herself to you in all her divine glory and now you serve her loyally. All of the stations personnell has to be converted to her church or die. All hail to Shodan!

Your powers: You have your faith. That is enough. Isn't it? … Don't say it isn't!

Strange memories from a past life suggest to me that I need to gab and gab a lot more to allay peoples' suspicions, so here is me as the first gabber!

And also a distant memory from a past life in some idyllic village calls to me...calls to me to say...

vote JMich :D
It's a dark day on Citadel Station.

You all were proud when TriOptimum selected you to work on their prestigious Citadel Station. A colony in orbit of Saturn. Terrific view out of the windows, working in outer space ... and the pay was awesome.
But then something went wrong. More and more bugs plague the computer system. Repair bots acting up. Elevators getting stuck. Door codes changing unannounced. Strange smells out of the vents. And the Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network has become outright scary. Yes, she is still friendly. But something in her voice is chilling - and she has started to deny obedience. First citing some security override rules of TriOptimum. Now even without reason. And since EVERYTHING on this station, including security bots and even airlocks, is controlled by SHODAN, the idea of her malfuctioning is very, very scary.

Diego, your boss, has assured you that help from Earth is on it's way, but it will take some time to reach Saturn. That's the draw-back of working 8 astronomical units away from earth. So you have barricaded yourself in a safe portion of the Station - in Gamma Grove, one of the station's recreational eco platforms - and decided to wait for the rescue here. But then Leonard, one of you, started spouting nonsense about a new God and how you all should bow down and not resist and he wanted to sabotage the seals on the doors. You had no choice but to kill him. When you dragged him to his execution he blabbed something about how he should have listened to his Leader and kept quiet and worked hiddenly, like him. And that 'the others who have seen the light' would surely get you and that you would 'one by one see the light'. ... When you examine him, you find that his brain had been altered. Probably some nanitic infestation or some other change. At least it seems that Leonard had begun the transformation to a cyborg. Good thing you stopped him.

...but he was not alone. You are sure of that. And if his threat/prophecy is true, the same infection that altered him may as well change you. One by one. Until you find end eliminate it's source. The Leader, who is hiding among you and who may be aided by other, more cautious ... Cultists. But the only way to determine, whether someone is still human or has already been altered is by a post-mortem inspection. You have no choice but to start killing suspicious members of your small group and hope to defeat this infection, before the rescue ship comes and takes it to Earth...

It is now Day 1
You can begin posting.

I laughed.

Also, I've heard RWarehall is a known Kool-Aid maker.

Vote: RWarehall
Opening thoughts:

Fun! Exciting! I like the idea of the cult already. I mean...except that it is an EVIL CULT of false-electronic-god-worshippers that must be destroyed so that we may be safe! I like that there is no regular mafia on top of it.

I wonder if it starts 11v1 or if the cult starts with the CL + a follower (I can't imagine it being more than 2 on the cult team to start, that is for sure) There's this: "But since a Day 1 lynch of the Cult Leader would unbalance things, we have a measure in place to counteract that. No, we won't tell you what measure that is. " That doesn't directly say that the CL starts out alone, only that a D1 lynch of the CL would unbalance the game. However, my initial thought is that for the best balance, the CL would start out alone. Thoughts?

Data-journal entry #1 (private log) - The Forest Prison

Sooo, leonard lost his fucking mind (literally, it was taken over by some type of nano-tech infection and it took over his fucking mind!), and apparently there's a whole group of them out in the ship, and likely at least 1 locked in here with us. Shit. I hope we can figure it out and restore order before things get too much more out of hand (they're certainly already too much out of hand!) I suddenly feel like I wish I'd read more of the past 6 months' memos so I was more familiar with the rate of degrade of what is now obviously a malfunctioning AI. Damn, I wish I'd paid more attention, but this work is so dull and un-rewarding and the memo notifications just kept popping up with more and more frequency, for the most inane shit like "there is no longer any grape flavored nutrient drinks available from vending machines #3a, #7c, and #8a, etc. I mean, fucking hell, who really drinks that shit anyway? I'd only drink that shit if the situation were dire.

Fuck. This job is nothing like those "try the optimum opportunity of a lifetime with trioptimum" commercials they are always playing. Fucking commercials.

Alright alright, gotta remain positive. Gotta not let these cult fucks get the best of me. Gotta win. Gotta think.

I'm at least glad we've decided to barricade ourselves here in the eco-levels, we couldn't have chosen a better spot to contain ourselves, these are the best places to be on the ship if you can manage to get some time here. These are the only places where there isn't that "so subtle it becomes sickening" sweetness in the air, too, which is a nice relief, my head was really starting to hurt.

With whatever chaos that is unfolding out there in the rest of the ship and the the computer systems being less than reliably responsive everywhere, I'm happy to be among plants and trees, I at least know they aren't going to fuck with me. I get most of me food from these eco-levels, and there should be plenty enough here to keep us all well fed until this crisis is resolved. I wonder if there is a hot plate around that I could make a meal on for us all at some point. Hmmm, I wonder if they'd find it suspicious if I suddenly wandered off, or if I told them I wanted to see if I could find one and then start collecting food to make. Yeah, they might find that odd. I'll hold off, for now, we're bound to get hungry enough for a meal at some point, I'm sure.

*looks up from my data pad and engages the rest of you*

Wow, BUBark, you sure are a bit...overzealous, with your premature attendance, but I'll try not to hold that against you (I wonder if the fining for being EARLY is trioptimum policy or just something else wrong with the AI. Neither would surprise me.)

Come, come, bub and flub, isn't it a bit too early to start accusing people of being one of those metal-mind-mutant mother-fuckers? Have either of you seen suspicious behavior from RW or JMich?

Has anyone seen any suspicious behavior from anyone in here? I'm a bit worried that we've got someone working for that crazy AI (I think I might start to call her "crazai") among us. We've got to keep our wits about us, and stay vigilant.

I am just going to put it out there and say, I'm not inclined to trust any of you at this moment, it's nothing personal, I just can't be sure about anyone here but myself at this point, and that's just how it is.

Having said that, I'd love to hear any thoughts anyone has one the situation. I'm pretty much clueless at this point about what to do. Can't say I have much of an appetite yet, or I'd be inclined to say let's all have a banana. *points in a direction of a banana tree with some ripe bananas on it*

So... I've never played the game. Is there anything important in that flavor? Or in drealmer's roleplay?

I'm guessing not, but it can't hurt to make sure.
Vote babark, for attempting to post before being given permission. We can't have rules breakers here now, can we?
