Johnathanamz: So my question is if a video game is sold on one place, but not another place where you purchase them like gog.com or on Steam or lets bring console exclusive video games like SONY's never being sold on PC, does it hurt you?

People tell me just purchase a PlayStation 4 (PS4) to play SONY's video games and I say back I'm not wasting $400 dollars $300 dollars (USD) on a PlayStation 4 (PS4) and then another $60 dollars (USD) per video game to play on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) when i can use that $300 dollars (USD) to purchase more video games on PC from gog.com or Steam or whatever.

Like if SONY ever released God of War (2018) and Detroit: Become Human for sale for PC and on gog.com and on Steam I would purchase it, but until then SONY will never see my money until I die.

The same I say about Electronic Arts (EA's) Origin and Activision-Blizzards Battle.net.

Destiny and Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII being sold on gog.com and on Steam as well would be better for us customers.

What is it with people saying just go make a Battle.net account it's free? I know it's free I have it for World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft only.

Some people even go further to say if you want it just buy it, but I will tell them I want it but I will not buy it until it is sold where I purchase from only.

It is already annoying I have to launch every time I turn my PC on Steam, Electronic Arts (EA's) Origin Epic Games launcher, and Ubisoft's Uplay, and Battle.net. I just want to launch one or two just to play video games.

Can someone from gog.com please fix cars to cares in the title name?
By boycotting these companies you're actually hurting yourself. You want those games, but instead you refuse to comply the rules to get them...

rjbuffchix: No offense meant, but, this mentality is part of the problem. If the user is accepting one or two launchers, they are effectively accepting them all. As some companies shrink, others will grow to the point they are big enough to try and elbow their way in with their own launcher DRM. I am still hoping that does not ever happen with Galaxy! But what I am saying is that the position to take is a hardline "zero launchers" stance to go against these companies taking hardline pro-launcher stances.

Johnathanamz: Well I do not have a Electronic Arts (EA) Origin account at all and I do not have a Ubisoft Uplay account either.

I have a Epic Games account because for only Unreal Engine, not for video games.

I have a Battle.net account because only for World of Warcraft, not for Overwatch, not for Destiny 2, and not for Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII.

I have a Steam account, well because I made my Steam account back in 2004 so I cannot let go of Steam, but I have not purchased a single video game from Steam since 2012, ever since I made my first gog.com account on in May of 2011.
Okay, but I'm just saying. Other people may be the opposite of you and only have an EA account, Ubi account, but not Battlenet. The end result is that people are supporting proprietary client DRM and given that people have different tastes, like with someone "needing" to set up Ubi DRM because they can't resist Ubi games, it ends up with a market where there are multiple proprietary clients that are viable, even if you yourself are not supporting all of them.

I honestly applaud you for not buying from Steam. I wish more people would take your cue in that respect. To me, DRM-free and gaming are intertwined. Without DRM-free, to me gaming may as well not exist. I know that in reality yes games listed on Steam (Scheme) exist, but to me they might as well not because I won't buy them or play them. In fact, I have made this point many times on this forum that without GOG, I would not be gaming.

Nah I am not hurting myself.

I will just complain and complain to video game publishing companies to release their video games for sale on gog.com.

I will even make wishlist votes on gog.com for console exclusive video games so that the gog.com business and marketing employees work with SONY and Nintendo in the future to make deals to release all of their video games for sale on gog.com.

Imagine if those wishlist votes on gog.com if more PC gamers voted more and more and we reached 500,000 votes, 1 million votes? 2 million votes? Imagine one day SONY and Nintendo finally caving to the PC gamers and releasing their console exclusive video games for sale for PC.

There are millions and millions of PC gamers on this planet who will never purchase a console ever in their life or ever again.

The last console I purchase was the PlayStation 2 (PS2) in 1999 or in 2000.
You wish them on gog? Well that's optimistic.

The reason I just stopped purchasing video games from Steam in 2012 was because I was sick and tired of limited PC activations some video games had and VALVe not caring and allowing that on Steam.

Then in 2013 VALVe allowed a community market where PC gamers who make mods can sell their mods and any virtual item for the video games listed on the community market on Steam.

Then 2014/2015 VALVe allowed video games with Denuvo to be sold on Steam and then in April of 2015 ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda Softworks, and VALVe wanted to sell mods even more than back in 2013.

So I can live without Steam forever. I am not going to abandon my Steam account I have had since 2004 because I got so many video games I purchased on it from 2004 to 2012, but I will never purchase PC versions of video games ever again from Steam.

This year marking six years of not purchasing any video games from Steam feels good. Lots of money saved.

BeatriceElysia: You wish them on gog? Well that's optimistic.
And using DRM rental services like Scheme is fatalistic to the gaming market. Your "playing by the rules" approach which exploitative companies tailor to their own ends, is a big contributor as to why it is so hard to get these games on GOG in the first place.

QuintSakugarne: I don't care as much about updates, but I guess you have a point about going bust.

Though that can be mitigated by downloading everything once one gets the chance.
avatar
blotunga: Gog at least tries to keep their games up and running for modern systems. That can't be said about the others.

Besides, backup atm is out of the question, my gog library is in the terrabyte range, I don't have that much free space laying around.
Meh, I had to do all the troubleshooting myself to get Arcanum to run on Win10 and Im pretty sure that part of that trouble could have been saved if GOG put a little extra effort to maintain it.

@OP You should specify if its PC vs console exclusives or GOG vs other stores. If its exlusive to a certain PC store then theres no issue, you can still get a torrent.

If we talk about console exclusives then it doesnt hurt me at all, I already own a PS3 and X360 that I recently undusted just to buy some 5$ pre-owned exclusives. You can easily buy a used PS3/X360 for 40$ and the games for 5-10$, and the Gamecube / Wii / Wii U can be emulated.

Most of console exclusives are low effort garbage that only exists to be labeled an 'exclusive' and drive up console sales anyway.

The exclusives for the current gen are a big joke so they cant hurt me. There isnt a single one of them on all consoles combined that interests me for just a rent. (Except Octopath Traveler on Switch but its getting shit reviews)

How is it optimistic?

Some dreams can come true.

Like Electronic Arts (EA) finally developing Command & Conquer 5 and to be similar to Command & Conquer Tiberiun Sun and Command & Conquer 3 instead of Command & Conquer 4.

Here is a employee at Electronic Arts (EA) talking about remastering the classic old Command & Conquer video games and maybe developing brand new Command & Conquer video games.

forum.openra.net/viewtopic.php?f=82&t=20777&sid=22575385a8e6425d95d293427bc65a2a

Here is gog.com wishlists I made for Command & Conquer 5 and Command & Conquer Generals 2 like over 2 years ago.

www.gog.com/wishlist/games/command_conquer_5_1

www.gog.com/wishlist/games/command_conquer_generals_2

Now I know gog.com cannot make Electronic Arts (EA) to develop brand new Command & Conquer video games, but the wishlist will show interest that gog.com can show to Electronic Arts.

So go vote if you want it.
Why buy something broken by design? What excuse do you have to put up with such crap?
Broken ? Works perfectly for me. Perhaps you should stop talking shite before making such a ridiculous claim.
SONY and Nintendo not releasing their video games for sale for PC is stupid because I will never purchase their consoles just to purchase and play their video games.
I'm sure Sony and Nintendo, are shitting themselves because a few self-entitled PC owners won't buy their console.
So if SONY and Nintendo ever wants my money they must release for sale for PC their video games.
NEVER going to happen, so deal with it. Your loss.
I find it fucking insane to deny yourself some great games just because it's on a different platform.
Steam, got the PC where it is, Not Gog.

I know Steam got the PC where it is today, but gog.com is the 2nd biggest digital distribution website on the PC.

I think Humble Bundle is 3rd.

Back in 2014 it was said gog.com had something like 70+ million PC gamers who made gog.com accounts.

Today I am sure there is over 150+ million gog.com accounts made.
Doesn't bother me personally as long as the service works. As time has gone on the non-Steam launchers have steadily improved to the point of no longer being contentious from a usability standpoint. That coupled with the rise of easily accessible free voip servers (discord, ts5, skype etc.) it's easier to maintain a centralized friend list and bounce from game to game, has made me open up my list of storefronts I'll purchase from. Having said that, I still haven't bought anything from the XBOX store on Windows 10 even though there are games on there I want.

Lol. I'm sure Sony and Nintendo are quaking in their boots at the threat of 10 self-entitled PC owners.
I bet they sell more in a few hours, then the entire PC crowd moaning about not buy their games.
Perhaps you would like to see Nintendo release their games for Sony ? or visa versa ?
Perhaps we shouldn't even have competition, and limit consoles to just one ?

You know, you can carry on your silly little crusade, or perhaps start living in the real world and buy a console. Otherwise, you get to miss out on some amazing games because of your silly stubbornness.
So here is a fact for you. Nintendo and Sony are never going to release their exclusive titles on PC, so get over yourself.

Do you really think there would not be 1+ million PC gamers who would purchase the new Spider-Man video game?

Or 1+ million PC gamers who would purchase Detroit: Become Human? Or Horizon: Zero Dawn? Or Uncharted? Or Splatoon? Or Splatoon 2? Or Heavy Rain?, etc.

The PC has longer legs over the years than console exclusive video games ever will.
