FIFA has been corrupt since the late 80's. Italia '90 was the start of it and then the corruption kept gathering momentum. Two things spring to mind though - The sponsors must have known what FIFA were up to but as long as they could market their products, they turned a blind eye. Now they're standing on their pedestals condemning the actions of FIFA as if they're holier-than-thou. People will always buy Coke, McDonalds and Budweiser (who are bizarrely the "official beer of the World Cup")

This is a bit "conspiracy theory" but what a coincidence that the US have decided to step in with their investigations a few years before the next World Cup bandwagon rolls in to Russia. Don't get me wrong, better late than never but I believe the US are trying to squeeze Russia via any route possible.
